CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING |

In March we continued our ecological marathon with students from Tamkang University. The 1st and 2nd lectures were devoted to CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING. The students, whose name were Semen Lin and Andrei Cheng, told us about Taiwan's environmental problems, global warming and climate change, and say the ocean is warming far faster than we thought. And sea levels could rise by 30 cm by the end of the century. 2019 (like 2018) is also set to be the hottest year since records began. Warmer seas fuel more powerful hurricanes, more intense rainfall, and destroy coral reefs. All these problems are very relevant for Taiwan because Taiwan is a small island in the Pacific ocean. Ocean heat is measured by thousands of robotic probes. Scientists say the warming oceans are due to rising CO2 levels. At the end of our event, we discussed this problem. All the guys think that all people should immediately solve these problems.

Hi Elizaveta,
Thank you for letting us know what is happening in Taiwan and I think ecological marathon is really a great activity! Climate change and global warming are really big issues these days and I am glad that you guys actually covered these two issues.
I am really interested in this ecological marathon and please keep me updated with your new session!

Hello Elizaveta!
Thank you for sharing the information you learnt during the ecological marathon. As you noticed, the effect of climate change can be varied by the geographic features of each countries. For instance, a country with snowy mountains often experience severe avalanche or ice melting. Like this, as an island in Asia, Taiwan can be affected by the changes in ocean temperature more directly. It would be meaningful for you to share any ideas that you came up with to solve these problems. 😊
