Dhaka- The Megacity where people can't breath.

by Abul Bashar Rahman | 21-03-2019 03:04 recommendations 0

Dhaka, the largest city in Bangladesh is facing a terrible storm in terms of its air quality index. The city is home to 20 million people is at serious stake in terms of maintaining air quality. Every day, millions of people went out in search of work. The primary mode of transportation for most of them is the public bus. These public buses are poorly constructed and have high carbon emission rate.
Moreover, a major portion of the city being unplanned. As a result, the percentage of greenery is not maintained. Motor vehicles running in and around city emits harmful carbon-di-oxide and carbon-mono-oxide gases. This is slowly scaling as more number of people is migrating to Dhaka.
The air quality index in Dhaka is the second lowest. And the only thing as residents of Dhaka, we can do is, plant trees. So, I urge every Bangladeshi reading this to plant more trees.

    Hello Hnin Phyu Sin

Thank you for your report. I feel sorry to hear that people living in Dhaka is experiencing terrible air pollution problem. Usually chemical substances emitted from transportations take a very big part in air pollution. It would be very meaningful if you can start a campaign that urges government to make a regulation on car emission. Thank you for sharing this important issue with fellow ambassadors!

    Hi Abdul,

Sorry to hear that Dhaka has terrible air pollution problem and I believe it urges the government to make some efforts to mitigate the current situation. In fact, air quality in Seoul is also bad too and the government is working to make sure we reduces the carbon emissions, control the traffic and so on.

Thank you for letting us know, and I'm looking forward to read your next report.

    Hey Abul!

Air pollution due to poor vehicle maintenance is an issue that many countries face, especially those of third world. my country faces the same problem too. We use taxis as the main mode of transportation, and it is a hassle to ask the government to change this form of transportation for an environmentally friendly one.

Planting trees is a start, and I think it would be a good idea if you initiate a tree planting session for a school or your community to enlighten people about the status quo of the air quality of Bangladesh.

Thank you for your report Abul!

    Sincerely,
    Rosa
