WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IN ORDER TO PREVENT CLIMATE CHANGE?

by Umut Karadeniz | 21-03-2019 04:03 recommendations 0

As I talked about what climate change is and its consequences now it is my belief that the question changes to what can be done by the government and citizens in order to prevent the climate change?

On the one hand, bigger steps should be taken by governments which will end up with bigger and permanent solutions. Firstly, many of us know that every refrigerator, supermarket case and air conditioner contains chemical gasses that absorb and release heat, making it possible to chill food and keep buildings cool. These gasses are actually the ones that ream the atmosphere and called CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and HCFCs (hydro chlorofluorocarbons). For the current problem the solution is in progress. In October 2016 officials from more than 170 countries gathered in Kigali, Rwanda in order to negotiate a deal for the problem of HCFCs and fortunately they reached a remarkable agreement. According to an amendment in the Montreal Protocol, the world will begin phasing the usage of HFCs, starting with high-income countries in 2019 and then expending to low-income countries some in 2024, others in 2028. Secondly, in a more technological way we can pull the extra and harmful carbon dioxide. Climeworks is a Swiss company which works on pulling the carbon dioxide from the air so the atmosphere. The company has fans in the city called Hinvil. The filters covered with chemicals inside the fans absorb the carbon dioxide gas. The system is known as direct-air capture system. This system can generate 900 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The resulting carbon dioxide is then sent to a nearby greenhouse. Thanks to the carbon dioxide gas, greenhouse can produce larger products. Climeworks sells a ton of carbon dioxide gas for less than $600. However, the experts find this price high. Thirdly, changing the carbon dioxide gas to baking powder. A factory called Tuticorin Alkali Chemicals in India, has established a first in the world by explaining that it has found a method to convert carbon dioxide gas into baking powder a result of its production. This conversion is carried out with the help of Carbon Clean Solutions Company. According to the company, 60.000 tons of carbon dioxide per year can be prevented by this method. The Carbon Clean Solutions Company is run by two young Indian chemists. These two chemists make use of salts to capture carbon dioxide and convert the vast majority of carbon dioxide emissions into baking powder. Finally, Electric Cargo Ship. World¡¯s first one hundred percent electric cargo ship was launched in Guangzhou, China. The ship can go 80 kilometers after two hours of charging. The ship is 70.5 meters long and has a 2400 kilowatt-hour battery. This ship has a speed of 12.8 kilometers per hour. The good thing is that the ship does not emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere because it works with 100% electricity. According to the company that made the ship, this technology can also be applied to passenger ships in the future.

On the other hand, citizens can do little things about the issue which can be a bigger solution. Firstly, as I mentioned that refrigerators have chemicals gasses in them, in order not to cause any further problems you can give your broken refrigerator to the place where you bought it so that the chemicals will be in a safe place not in atmosphere. Secondly, you should waste less food. Methane from agricultural actives, waste management and energy use is the second largest cause of climate change behind fossils fuels, according to Environmental Protection Agency. Reducing food waste is the number-one thing consumers can do to significantly lessen their climate impact, according to the Project Drawdown Report. Thirdly, eat less factory-farmed red meat. Factory farms feed cows grains, which cause them to release methane into the air through their gases. Finally, you can volunteer. A big way to be a part of the solution is to join a nonprofit organization where you live focuses on helping the environment. Many of these organizations have membership opportunities in states and congressional districts across the country.

In conclusion, from my point of view if we as humans do not hesitate to support preventing climate change it is no obstacle for the humanity and more importantly we will live in a clean world and leave a world where our grandsons can live happily.

    Hello Umut

Thank you for sharing such brilliant ideas with fellow ambassadors! I think we??re on the same page in solving climate change issues. There are definitely some areas that require a lot of time and financial supports. Technical development for manufacturing energy saving appliances would be a good example. On the other hand, there are so many things that we can practice in our daily lives. Thank you for pointing this important fact and then suggesting wonderful solutions. Keep up the good work!

    Hi Umut,

This is another great report after your first report, and to be honest I was about to ask you what we shall do to prevent Climate Change. As we are the main contributors of environmental pollution, we should be responsible for our actions. I really enjoyed reading your report.

Please keep up the good work! :)

    Hello Umut

I do hope that you are fine and doing great with your works. Thank you for your report about climate change. We must focus on the mitigation measure and adaption measures to combat climate change together. We must also create awareness campaign too.

    Green Cheers from Nepal :)
    Keep writing great reports.
We are eager to read more reports from you.

    Yours,

    Hey Umut,

I find this report very interesting, I am not a techo-person but I admire the works of many who try to infuse environmental protection with technological advancements. From converting carbon dioxide to baking powder to the first Electric Cargo Ship,it is clear that companies and campaigns are putting two-n-two together to solve the problem one step at a time.

And the basic, everyday things we as individuals can do are plausible and practical...they can be done. And I thank you for this well informed report.

    I enjoyed reading it.

    Sincerely yours,
    Rosa.
