AIR POLLUTION REPORT, TURKEY

by Umut Karadeniz | 21-03-2019 04:20 recommendations 0

Environmental Engineers Chamber has announced that the air polution in Turkey
become air pollution crisis. Only 6 provinces out of the 81 provinces were clean.
Ankara, S©¥hhiye was the place where the most pollution was experienced,
including Hacettepe, İbn-i Sina, Yüksek İhtisas, Numune hospitals and the Ministry
of Health. Esenyurt and Şirinevler in Istanbul; Gaziemir and Bayrakl©¥ poison inhaled
in Izmir. The 6 cities that came clean were Artvin, Bitlis, Eskişehir, Yozgat, K©¥rşehir and
K©¥r©¥kkale.

Baran Bozoğlu, President of the Chamber of Environment and Engineers, announced
the 2017 Air Pollution Report. Bozoğlu said, in terms of particulate matter and sulfur
dioxide, only six of our cities are air conditioned. The most polluted provinces are
Istanbul, Ankara, Adana, Amasya and Manisa. The air pollution problem in Turkey
has turned in to crisis. Governorships and municipalities should take urgent
measures.

LIFE THREATS
Bozoğlu mentioned that Turkey's air drew attention is increasingly threatened by
contamination life. He added that dirty air respiratory infection, cancer, premature
infant deaths, disabled births and mass deaths reminded that caused.

ACCORDING TO WHO PARAMETERS
World Health Organization (WHO) is used to measure air pollution according to the
PM10 parameter is regular and more than 35 days PM10 WHO exceed the limit
value of the provinces considered dirty: Istanbul, Ankara, Adana, Amasya, Manisa,
Bursa, Denizli, Nigde , Tekirdag, Hatay, Yalova, Sivas, Kahramanmaras, Kutayha,
Sakarya, Kirklareli, Icel and Samsun.

THE HIGHEST HANDLING REGION
Baran Bozoglu listed the most polluted places in three major cities and explained
the reasons for this: S©¥hhiye, the hospital's most polluted place in Ankara. Citizens
are actually being poisoned where they go to get health care, to find healing. Air
pollution in Ankara is caused by traffic and heating. The use of poor quality coal
has a great effect on this. Kayaş also has pollution caused by high-tonnage vehicles.
In Kecioren, pollution is increasing day by day.

NO CLEAN LOCATION IN CAPITAL CITY
The capital's unclean zone is not available. We see that the main source of this is
the transportation policy of Ankara. The other problem is the use of poor quality
coal in the capital.

THE CLEANEST DISTRICT IN ISTANBUL
In Istanbul, we see that the limit values are intensively exceeded in all stations.
Istanbul, the district with the highest population in Esenyurt, where the highest
air pollution. 248 days of the year, citizens here breathe dirty air. Again, Şirinevler,
Aksaray, Başakşehir and Göztepe air comes at the top of the dirtiest places. The
cleanest district of Istanbul is Şile.

URBAN TRANSFORMATION CAN CAUSE CANCER
Istanbul's main source of pollution is urban transformation. The amount of dust
from construction is increasing. Urban transformation is a process that needs to
be planned very well for the solution of environmental problems. Planning of
cities, opening of air corridors, is an important process for making green buildings
with low energy consumption and low pollution. However, we are about to miss
this opportunity. Municipalities need to use wetting work and barriers where
necessary to prevent dusting. Otherwise, there is a danger of cancer in the regions
of urban transformation.

    Hello Umut

Thank you for sharing this urgent and important issue! Air pollution has the most direct impact on people??s lives as it can cause a lot of fatal diseases. Despite of the importance of clean air, most urban cities are suffering from poor air quality and governments don??t pay much attention to solve it. Thank you again for addressing this important issue and it would be wonderful if you can come up with any possible solution : )

    Hi Umut,

This is a very detailed report about Turkey's air pollution problem, and as you pointed out air pollution can induce many other problems such as cancer to us. We, as a whole, should really care about the environment, otherwise we will suffer a lot at the end.

    Thank you, Umut!

    Hi Umut,

I trust you are well. It is clear that with the rate at which we are moving from the conventional use of coal and other finite energy resources to renewable resource, we are not only eating away the lives of those yet to be born, but we are endangering our own.

I am deeply disturbed in knowing that the S??hhiye Hospital is doing the complete opposite of what the general mandate of a hospital is supposed to do. I think that it is also not their fault and that the predicament is due to the long standing CO2 emissions in the city.

I hope practical mitigation plans are already in order to help the health sector and the dire air pollution problem in Turkey as a whole.

Thank you for your report Umet!

    Sincerely,
    Rosa
