The impact of climate change on Azerbaijan

by Mehri Huseynli | 27-03-2019 07:34 recommendations 0

Interestingly, if the temperature in the planet increases to 2 degrees, what happens in different places? The most dangerous places are the Indian-Chinese Peninsula, Japan, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, parts of the United States, parts of Canada and the Gulf of Mexico, parts of Europe and places with shores and large water sources. The danger is that the majority of the population resides in the oceanside and on the islands.

It should be noted that climate change and its consequences have shown itself in Azerbaijan. For 100 years the temperature in Azerbaijan has risen to 0.7-0.8 degrees.

Anomalous climate variability, landslides occurring in the western part of the country, and flood of Kur and Araz rivers reveal the emergence of new dangerous air cycles on the Earth. Developing countries are vulnerable. Developing countries have less income, that¡¯s why developing countries are more exposed to climate change impacts than developed countries and have fewer opportunities to adapt to these effects. Fortunately, Azerbaijan is located in the continental part of Eurasia continent. Therefore, the effects of disasters, severe hurricanes, floods and deluges in the world are not so strong. That is, the effects are weakened until they come to Azerbaijan. And there are no impacts in the country. But, despite this, there are a lot of complications. For example, deluges and floods. This year the country suffered from it. As a result, there was salinization and desertification. The winds are stronger than ever before.

One of the consequences of climate change will be the forecast of the Caspian Sea up to 2100. This, in its turn, can lead to floods in the area of Caspian Sea.

Let us note that, like other developing countries of the world, Azerbaijan participates in joint struggle against the negative impact of climate change and has joined the various international conventions and protocols. For example, Azerbaijan joined the Kyoto Protocol in 2000, which regulates the climate change situation.

    Hello Mehri

Thank you for your wonderful report about the current situation in Azerbaijan. I really got to know more about what??s happening in Azerbaijan and how the government is adapting to it. I believe that sharing the impacts of climate changes in his or her own country will help people better understand each other. Though climate changes can reach all parts of the globe, some regions are much more vulnerable. For example, islands or peninsulas are more vulnerable to the rise of sea levels. Thank you for sharing this important issue and please keep up the good work : ) Don??t forget to attach a related photo next time!

    Hi Mehri,

I trust you are well, you are right it saying that climate chnage has a high toll on those who live at or close to the coast, but just as those people are more vulnerable to climate chnage and the disasters the follow, so are those who live inland. It is disheartening that even the nation of Azerbaijanis suffering from the effects of global warming.

It is good that Azerbaijan signed in the Kyoto Protocol, thus they truely showing their dedication to bring about a clean planet for all.

Thank you for commenting, stay blessed and...
    Kind regards,
    Rosa
