Trip to lilayi elephant nursery

by Bwalya Bwalya | 05-05-2019 18:10 recommendations 1

We visited lilayi elephant nursery last week to see orphaned elephants and get to appreciate the beauty of conservation of species. We had a guide accompany us and explained the various circumstances in which the elephants were adopted. The nursery currently has Four elephant orphaned species about24months old. Two of them are more delicate than the other two as they do not have tasks to defend themselves from predators in when they are taken back into the wild (as nursery only keeps them untill age 3). The lack of tasks would also make their search for food difficult making them rely on other elephants to do the food search for them.. The aforementioned would result into animal conflict. We learnt that many especially in Africa poarch the elephants for medicinal purposes while others feel the tasks are a booster for sexual energy.. Both of the reasons being totally wrong. We need more sensitization programs on animal conservation si as to conserve animals for future generations.

    Hi Bwalya,

This is an inspiring report and I personally hope that I could have a chance to visit lilayi elephant nursery as well. I hope you did had a great experience and memory through the visit. I think the elephant nursery is really meaningful in a sense that it actually help protecting elephants. I have seen some news that elephants are decreasing in number because there are some hunters who kill the elephants to get their teeth to sell in the market. This is so wrong. I am glad that you actually visited the nursery! Please keep us updated!

    Greetings Bwalya,

It seems like you had a great time at the elephant nursery!
It is good that such places are being operated to conserve the elephants, which can also help maintain biodiversity of elephant species.
People should be educated that the tusks do not provide health benefits, to mitigate the exploitation of these poor animals.
Thank you for this wonderful report :)

    Sincerely,
    Eco Generation
