Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Zaretskaya. I would like to draw your attention to my report related to Our ideal 2050.

On May 28th, 2019, our class in YCSH (Taiwan, Taipei), organized a final presentation. We had to make speeches about the topics we were given earlier, and most of them were about the ecological problems. Our group gave a speech about  global warming and green energy.

Whether we acknowledge it or not, global warming has become a fact. You may have heard of Trump¡¯s administration denying the truth of global warming but for the past thirty years, both of the poles have significantly decreased in its amount of ice. Greenland which was supposed to be far from melting has now been melting in recent years.

So what, really, is global warming? It¡¯s caused by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, water vapor and many more. These are the substances that keep the heat in the atmosphere, causing the rises of temperature. Since the start of industrial revolution carbon dioxide has been increasing for the past 30 years in an alarming rate. Plastic is the most essential material that we use in life. Which is one of the things our oceans are now filled with? It affects the ocean¡¯s food chain, and also the fish products that we buy. This is the crisis that we are now in.

Thankfully we have invented green energy to prevent the damage keep going. Green energy is a way energy is produced. It doesn¡¯t mean that the energy is produced in the color of green. What it means actually is that the energy generated is clean. Natural resources are extracted straight from the environment to generate power. Unlike fossil fuels, one of its benefits is that it never runs out, in other words, it's renewable energy. Another side benefit is that green energy creates a better environment for people. Renewable energy sources emit little or no pollutants into the air. This means an overall positive impact on the natural environment with less carbon dioxide released into the air. With renewable energy, you¡¯re helping to decrease the prevalence of these pollutants and contributing a healthier atmosphere.

However, there are also some disadvantages of  green energy. Most of the materials that green energy uses require a lot of the things that leave mass carbon footprints due to its enormous size and the inefficiency of transportation. Even though green energy is clean, the effect is not as good as fossil fuels because most of the green energy rely on natural sources such as wind, sun, and water, which can be easily affected by climate change. Other green energies often require men power to make energies. The second problem is that we cannot predict how much the energy we want and to store. Since we cannot control the weather to satisfy our needs, sometimes the energy is too much for us to save and sometimes too less which is often the most prominent problem you see in solar and wind power. Of course, these energies will are often limited within the household and cannot be shared with communities because of its limitations. The best solution to this energy crisis and the greenhouse effect is to do it within every household. And the installment of solar panel on every building could be achieved in the next twenty years. Every house in the country should be collecting rain for their own, instead of using sewers to provide them water. If you use a tap, you can easily be fooled by thinking that water is an infinite resource, because no matter how long you use it, the water is going to be there. So encouraging people to use collected water helps them to understand that nothing Mother Nature gives to us is infinite.

We knew that the severity of global warming does indeed have a serious effect not only on us but on the other animals that we live with. After listening to us explaining the benefits and disadvantages of green energy, you must be wondering why we are emphasizing on using it. Well, now we all are facing some serious problems such as global warming, which actually was caused by us, so now we should reduce the carbon dioxide by letting other kinds of energies take the place of the nuclear, and other harmful ones.

Thank you for your attention.

    Hi Lisa,

Thank you so much for your time and efforts in writing this report, and I think it was great to have a presentation on environment as today's global warming becomes more severe day by day. I hope your actions will definitely make big impact to others who are around you. Great work!

    Hello Lisa

Thank you for your wonderful report about the topic of your presentation. To mitigate global warming issue, we must find green energy that emits less pollutants. However, though overlooked by most people, developing green energy has its side effects as well. I really like how you pointed out this. As most of green energy that has been developed are less energy efficient, it requires even more energy to transport. Also, it is difficult to measure the exact amount of energy we need. Thank you again for your thorough and entertaining report. Keep up the good work!

    Hey there 'Liza!

I hope you are well today, your report puts a very big notice on us humans in that we are responsible for the mass in carbon dioxide in the air and it is very true. We should see to it that over the next 20 years we will have rain harvesting tanks and solar energy to functions in our households. This will bring about a lesser carbon footprint, similar to how it was before the revolution of the industrial era.

I like how you put this phrase in your report 'It doesn??t mean that the energy is produced in the color of green'.. it made in laugh a little. And I am glad you went on th further explain the entity that is green energy and green house effect.

Thank you so much for this informative report! I am fortunate to have read it!

    Warm regards,
    Rosa

    Hello eliza
Thank you so much for sharing about your presentation.
Global warming is a real. Ice melting, ocean level decreasing to the green energy everything is adversely affected.
    Good report.
    Green cheers!
