Water is a scarce resource in the UAE. The amount of water we use is constantly growing. For example, at home, we waste around 4 gallons of water while keeping the tap running for brushing our teeth. 72% of water used in UAE comes from groundwater, 21% comes from desalination and only 7% is treated water as stated by EAD. In addition, treated water is often left unused and dumped. UAE’s water stress is more i.e. the availability of water isn’t in balance with the demand of water. The resources are limited but it has one of the highest water consumption rates in the world and it rated as a high-rank country by UN. Water conservation plans: 1. Groundwater conservation – Explore and use innovative technological methods and solutions to conserve water and to recycle. 2. Minimize water losses and discharges from leaky faucets and pipes. 3. Use water in an optimal way in agriculture. Ensure to keep in mind food security while using recycled water and desalinated water. 4. Ensure to develop and use low water by using high efficiency strategies in public amenities and forestry sectors. The demand for water in Abu Dhabi Emirate is increasing rapidly. By adopting the above water conservation plans in our Emirate, we can considerably conserve water and not fall in water crisis. A few simple ways that maybe adopted at home to conserve water are as follows: Replace old toilets that use 3 gallons of clean water with every flush to new toilets that use only 1 gallon, Use a water efficient dishwasher that use 4 gallons per wash cycle when compared to old ones that use up to 13 gallons per cycle. Hi Saniath,
Thank you for your report on water scarcity in UAE and honestly water scarcity is also a big issue in my home country as well. Yet, water is extremely important as everyone of us needs to drink water everyone and we cannot live without the water. I hope all countries can work together to resolve this issues at hand for humanity.

I hope you are well today my fellow ambassador!
I like the fact that you've put forth ground water as a resource because so many time certain articles do not recognise groundwater as a valuable resource. The recycling of water is an excellent idea especially when it comes to using less water for toilets or using grey water for the use of toilets this will go a long way in securing our water resources.

This post is much needed.
This year has been very sultry in some parts of India and flood conditions in others. Despite the government taking initiatives, it is difficult to say that a layman has understood the grappling problem, especially in the cities.

Thank you for sharing your report on water conservation in UAE. I've read a few articles about water scarcity in UAE and development of desalination technology in UAE. However, using water efficiently and groundwater conservation should come first. Also, since water scarcity is common problem of many countries, the methods of conserving water can be applied to other countries as well. Keep up the good work! :)
