Used Book – Importance

Used Book – Importance

Fellow Ambassadors, Millions of books are printed & sold throughout the world. You might have purchased many books but what you do after you finish reading them. What you do with the old books when you gets promoted to a higher standard in school or university.

Some people recycle them, dispose them as waste or keep them in the house as library. There is one more option, these can be exchanged or passed on to the next reader. Students promoting to higher standard may give them to the new students & similarly may take books from their seniors. This is very good and eco-friendly system. A book, if kept carefully, may last 5-10 years. Recycling may be done at the last stage when it is dilapidated. Exchange of books is very practical. The books you have read may be exchanged with the books you aspire to read.

In this direction, Sharjah has organized many used book fairs & I have participated & volunteered in the same for many years in the past. What the authorities do is that they collect the books from library or as donation from children. I have donated hundreds of books in the past. All such books are sold for very nominal prices such as ranging from Half US Dollar to four dollars.

The books are in excellent condition & sometimes new as well but the prices are rock bottom. It has been my privilege to contribute to and participate in such noble eco-friendly causes. This has been published in newspapers as well.

I wish to share this idea with my friends at this amazing platform. Please exchange the books & keep your library rotational. School children also must be encouraged to share them with their juniors & take from the seniors. This is very simple & very effective eco-friendly & cost effective initiative.

Thanks for reading.

    Hello Rohan

This is such a great initiative! It's disheartening that millions of books in good quality are abandoned. Sharing used book sounds like a great idea in respective of both environments and child education. Thanks for setting a great example for fellow ambassadors!
