Green Legacy

On the 29th of July all of Ethiopia was set on one task and that alone, to plant trees everywhere. The government of Ethiopia arranged such a day where history was to be made by its people on the 29th. Every preparation was perfected beforehand and Government work was closed for that day and all were excused so that the nation would focus on planting trees only. And all sectors whether government, private, schools, universities and even religious were to be involved in this program. Transport was made ready and the holes to plant the seedlings in were dug beforehand, all that was left to do was for the citizens of Ethiopia to march towards victory. The most awaited day for many, the 29th July made Ethiopia unite on a mission to leave a green legacy. Every part of the community got involved and at the end of the day, the world record for planting trees was broken. Although it is no competition, the previous world record holder was India with over 50 million trees planted in one day but Ethiopia broke the world record by planting over 350 million trees in just a day (12 hours). This was Ethiopia literally fighting against climate change and it is only fair to say that Ethiopia won, all with the help of volunteers from all over the country.
