Living on credit with the planet Is it fair? ⠀ ⠀ Last night, in the Library of Foreign Literature, 80 people came to listen to my lecture on my lecture on ecology and find out what resources, such as small simple eco-habits, reduce our ecological footprint and why humanity already needs not one planet, but 1.74! 👀⠀ ⠀ They came because July 29, 2019 came World Ecological Debt Day, which means that people have spent all the resources that our wonderful planet Earth could restore in a year. ⠀ I do not like the name Day of Environmental Debt, as it is a continuation, pressure on conscience and shame. Nobody likes such manipulations, but this does not change the essence, and a personal credit day for Russia came on April 26. ⠀ Do not forget that we borrow not only from the planet, but also from future generations. We live now, and they will have to pay. ⠀ ⠀ Every year, Eco-Debt Day comes earlier: ⠀ ⠀ in 1970 it came on December 23, in 2000 - on October 4, in 2016 - on August 1, in 2018 - on August 2, and now on July 29. ⠀ ⠀ For a year it is 4 days .. and our universal task is to push Eco-Debt Day as far as possible. ⠀ ⠀ What is one day for the planet: ⠀ ⠀ ✖️ At least 20,000 ha of forests are being lost. ⠀ ⠀ ✖️ Up to 4.8 million tons of garbage appears. ⠀ ⠀ 12Eating up 12.5 million tons of food, of which 3.7 million tons are simply thrown away. ⠀ ⠀ ✖️ 88.5 megatons of CO2 are released into the atmosphere. ⠀ ⠀ Humanity cannot return all the resources to the planet, so we have one solution - to stop taking. Consciously consume and leave behind a cultural, not trash mark! ⠀ ⠀ The goal is achievable. After all, even small changes for the better are small, but a victory. ⠀ ⠀ No matter how much you do today, the main thing is that you already do it! ❤️ ⠀

Hello Yeva
Thank you for sharing what you presented on World Ecological Debt day. As many people sharing the same concern with you, ecological debt day is also called as earth overshoot day.
However, the essence is that humanity's demands have now far exceeded what the ecological resources can offer. It's high time we should return what we exploited from the earth.

Hey Yeva!
I actually like the idea that we do have a day called Ecological Debt Day in that we increasingly always put ourselves in that. And the debt is not just from the earth but it is the fact that we owe our future generations as well. We owe our future generations in all the natural resources that we are using now because we over utilise and humanity knows that we over utilise. I do hope that something is done for people to see and understand that we need to have alternative ways on how we safeguard our resources for the future benefit.
Thank you for this insightful report Yeva I hope to read more of your report soon!
Sincerely,
Rosa
