AMAZON ON FIRE

by Anishka Jha | 03-09-2019 17:47 recommendations 1

Human greed has surpassed its limits in terms of amassing the natural wealth of our earth. Last few days newspapers have been inundated with the news of Amazon fire. For e.g , Gulf News says ¡°This time, it¡¯s no myth: The Amazon is burning, because of human actions. There is no phoenix rising from the ashes of these fires- once the Amazon is gone, that¡¯s it. The man-made flames threaten us all¡±.

Despite so many warnings on climate change, Environment conferences world over, there has been a lukewarm approach to save our forest and environment from degradation. The awareness and effort has not yet reached the grass root levels. It is alleged that humans are deliberately setting fires in the forest area of Amazon belt in order to clear the land for farming, logging and ranching purposes. It is not easy to have fire so often in the forest naturally unless it is by humans.

Brazil¡¯s National Space Research Institute, which monitors deforestation, has recorded 40,341 wildfires across the Amazon this year, as of Thursday. That¡¯s 40,341 fires in less than five days. That¡¯s an 85 per cent rise over last year¡¯s figure.

According to preliminary satellite data from Brazil¡¯s space agency, trees were being cleared at the rate of five football pitches every minute. During dry season that is July to November it is all the more difficult to control the fire from spreading.

I would  reiterate here  again that Amazon forest is the lung of our earth as it takes the toxin carbon dioxide from our greenhouse gases atmosphere  and converts them into oxygen that we need to breath. These trees affect the weather pattern of so many countries like South America. We all know that trees are important to form rain. If trees are cut for personal interest the spell of dry season will prolong and that will affect our agricultural output and hence it will have long lasting impact on the lives on earth. Human beings are not firing the Amazon forest for deforestation but eventually and deeply they are firing their lives on earth.

    Hello Anishka!
Thanks for the serious report about the deforestation happening in Amazon.
Humans are now encountering the fact that they are burning their own lives.
It's time we should see further, not just for some interest in front of our faces.

I'm really surprised by the speed and the huge size of the burning.
As you mentioned, there is no myth that can bring us back the healthy jungle.
It's too late as we notice it.

I look forward to see your next great report!

    Hey there Anishka,

    I trust you are well,

It is honestly saddening that we get to a point where the Amazon is being sidelined for money and power. They authorities who should be looking into this are walking blind and not paying heed to the issue at hand. The Amazon is at stake, a whole forest! I true wish we had the resources to take on this problem because we lose the Amazon, we may as well give up to saving our Planet.

Thank you for bringing us up to date with this issue Anishka!
    Warm regards,
    Rosa
