Green Visit to Bee'ah landfill

Dear Eco-Generation friends,

Hi! Hope you are doing well all around the world. I just wanted to share my amazing experience today at a tour held by the Bee'ah Environmental Company in Sharjah UAE.

First I went to the Sharjah Expo Centre to visit the 'Green Middle East Exhibition' held from 28-30 Oct 2013. It was a great experience as I felt really environmental while attending this tour.

Right outside the Expo, there was a fleet of vehicles that are used by Bee?ah to clean up all of Sharjah and to keep it clean and green.

1. Tennant Green Machine 4000- The green machine easily picks up cans, cigarette butts, leaves, dirt and even glass bottles. The -14 horsepower water-cooled diesel engine produces unequalled vacuum power, yet sips just 2 gallons of water per day.

2. IVECO Binwasher- The IVECO Binwasher is used to wash the 2.4CBM bins with a tank capacity that exceeds 4000 liters. It washes all the bins with warm water.

3. IVECO sideloader- The IVECO sideloader loads collects waste from the 2.4 CBM bins and takes only 40-45 seconds to empty the bins without the help of any labour. The driver controls the whole process bins and empties them while sitting inside.

4. Glutton Machine: The glutton waste vacuum cleaner collects and vacuums waste such as cigarettes and cigarette butts, cans, bottles, and dust.

And many more green machines???.

Then I finally entered the Expo where I found the My Bee?ah program?s Reverse Vending Machine program. It was a great experience to recycle bottles on the spot. I am a loyalty Bee?ah card holder so it was a great asset to my points.

After that, I proceeded towards the exhibition hall where for my registration, I was asked to present a business card. I promptly presented my Tunza Eco-Generation business card which they accepted with a little bit of astonishment. But after I explained to them that I was an ambassador of Tunza Eco-Generation to the UAE, they were impressed and gave me a corporate name tag with my company as Tunza Eco-Generation. I was proud to represent Eco-Gen in the exhibition

There were many exhibits at the exhibition such as Bee?ah, Wekaya, and many others. After taking a round of the exhibition, we proceeded towards Bee?ah?s bus to take the two hour tour. The capable staff was very calm and humble and guided us effectively. The journey was not boring at all as we saw the video of the two environmental walkathons held in 2012 and 2013 by Bee?ah.

We visited the Bee?ah environmental landfill in Al Sajja, Sharjah which is the largest landfill in the middle east and the 3rd largest in the whole world with an area equivalent to the size of 525 football fields!

The landfill had many different facilities, they were:

-The Material Recollection Facility or MaRF: All the recyclable materials such as wood, paper, plastic, aluminum cans, etc. are compacted here and further packed in bales and then sold to company for reusing. It is a great way to recycle the recyclable materials.

-The Construction Demolition facility: In this facility, the debris from the construction sites is taken and and powdered. After which it is used to make further pavements, roads, foothpaths, etc.

-The Tire Recycling facility: The tires are recycled from all the different waste vehicles and used to make rubber bricks and cycling tracks.

-The metal Shredding Facility: Metal waste that cannot be recycled is taken care of here after shredding and melting.

-The Wekaya: Wekaya is a unit of Bee?ah that deals with the medical waste that comes from the hospitals from all across the UAE.

After taking the tour of all these different facilities, we proceeded towards the compost pits where there was organic matter that is used to make the compost for recycling.

Then we went to their office and saw there meeting room where I fort the opportunity to feel how it was to be a real Bee?ah Laborer by putting the Hard hat and the life vest on.

Throughout this tour, I was joined by my fellow ambassador to the UAE, Arushi Madan who enjoyed the tour as much as I did.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I really learned a lot about what happens to the waste after we dump it in the bin. Cheers to Bee?ah!
