Today was an important day for me as I was one of the 5 girls selected to greet His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi - the Ruler of Sharjah & member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates -at the inauguration of Green Middle East 2013 hosted by Bee?ah.
Bee?ah is Sharjah?s waste management company and is the leading company in the UAE that is sweeping clean towards zero-waste to landfill by 2015.
Green Middle Eat Exhibition is Environmental Management & Technology Exhibition which started today and will be on till 30th Oct at Sharjah Expo centre.
This show/Exhibition comes at a time when the UAE is drawing up an action plan to set reasonable targets to achieve green growth in oil and gas, water and electricity, transportation, buildings, waste management, industry and economy, and land use and agriculture. This exhibition is a forum for Environmental Change bringing together decision-makers from ministries of water, electricity & environment, power & electricity companies, municipalities, environmental agencies , environmental activists & waste management centers in the Middle East & North Africa region.
We, the 5 girls from DPS-Sharjah school were invited by Bee?ah to hold UAE flag and banner reading ?We are the proud 1st place winner of Bee?ah environment awareness award?. It was a lifetime experience to meet Sharjah ruler in person and getting chance to greet him .
After the opening ceremony , we went around to see the exhibition. Green Middle East is displaying a variety of technological solutions to reduce and reuse solid waste, waste water, helping save energy, lessen pollution and build greener structures.
The show is featuring individual segments such as Solid Waste, Waste Water, Air Pollution, Scrap Metal, Alternative Energy and Green Building. Exhibits include garbage bins, compactors, chutes, truck mounted garbage coppactors, balers, sweepers, municipal waste sorting, hazardous waste disposal, PET recycling, cable recycling and a host of solid waste management equipment.
Solar & Green building solutions in led lighting, eco furniture, solar applications and energy conservation devices complement the exhibit showcase. The section on green & natural products have a variety of European suppliers dealing in recycled and eco-friendly products .
Some exhibitors were displaying soaps , juices , pickles , spices etc all organically made , free from any chemicals/preservatives.
We saw the products made from recycling of tyres.
Sustainable Toys made of wood (and harmless to kids )were too good.
The best part was when we were standing and suddenly we saw black bag like thing moving and coming behind us , the bag had the message written on it ?Your Trash can come back and haunt you - RECYCLE?. It was such an interesting way to convey the message effectively. We were so curious to know how the bag was moving . Later we saw a man controlling the bag with a remote control.
We also saw biological filtration system for water which showed natural purification of water .
Another interesting object was stress reliever spray which was made 100% from flower /plant extracts. It was sprayed on me and I really found myself light and relaxed .
This exhibition has given me so many ideas for sustainability and proved that if we want , we can make anything in a sustainable manner and almost everything can be either recycled or reused .
