People generally use mask to avoid air pollution, grow trees but How much do you care about the air pollution inside your house? In my recent ecofact of the ecofact series I presented that almost 90% people of the world live in the place where air pollution exceeds WHO guidelines. Most people can recognize the health concerns associated with outdoor air pollution, however they rarely consider how poor their indoor air quality is. Not only are there numerous pollutants only released indoors, but outdoor air can find its way inside as well. Small things most people do on a daily basis can quickly lead to a dramatic deterioration in indoor air quality. Hundreds of potentially harmful chemicals are admitted or released by household cleaning agents, personal care products, paint, and solvents used on a regular basis. According to a report by the World Health Organisation, 4.3 million people worldwide die due to poor air quality prevailing inside the house. Environmental Protection Agency has consistently ranked indoor air pollution as one of the most concerning environmental dangers we all face daily. This is primarily because the sources of pollution are everywhere in our home. In fact, the EPA estimates that our indoor air has nearly 5x as much pollutants than outdoor air. Some homes may even have 100x more pollutants. There are a variety of proactive steps someone can take to improve their indoor air quality. Something as natural as plants, nature¡¯s own air purifiers, can help you in keeping your house clear of air pollution by tackling the following pollutants. Some of the popular indoor plants are: 1. Aloe Vera 2. Spider Plant 3. Snake Plant 4. Bamboo Plant 5. Warneck Dracaena As an Regional Ambassador to Tunza EcoGeneration, I had conducted World Environment Day Creative Challenge, Awareness Video and also Written an Awareness Story on Small Acts to beat Air Pollution. This time I came with a new program to continue with programs related to beat air pollution. I gave orientation about indoor air pollution, its impacts and possible ways to minimize it to my friends and juniors living in hostel. More than 50 us of live in this hostel. After the orientation and discussion, we made a resolution to plant a indoor plant in each room. We also have kept some indoor plants at the corridors and windows of hostel. |
