Are we killing the nature or it is killing us ? Wise use of insecticides and Pesticides Pesticides(agents used to kill pests/insects) and herbicides(agents used to kill unwanted grass) are both environmental toxins, and are collectively known as xenobiotics. I am sure you have used them once or twice in your life. Xenobiotics include not only pesticides/herbicides, but plastics (bisphenol A), surfactants used in food packaging, household chemicals, industrial chemicals (PCBs and dioxins), and heavy metals (lead, mercury, and cadmium). These products have been shown to have a negative impact on animal health that includes humans as well. One group of xenobiotics is made up of environmental estrogens, referred to as xenoestrogens, which mimic animal hormones and act as endocrine system disrupters. Remember endocrine gland is which makes sure our system is running smoothly. Like other xenobiotics, they come from pesticides/herbicides and other chemicals. They are in our food, our water, and our air. The most important concern is once in our body, they are not easily broken down. In humans, xenoestrogens mimic the effect of human estrogens because they have a chemical structure that allows them to fit into estrogen receptor sites. But once there, they cause issues. According to a 2006 study, they can prevent normal hormone binding to hormone receptors, influence cell signaling pathways, and increase cell division. Xenoestrogens are just one example of how pesticides and other toxins that humans use in food production are impacting our environment and our health. |

Hey Sachin!
This is your mentor Lisa.
Excessive usage of those pesticides and other chemical products have been environmental and health problems since very long ago. It happens that in many countries, eco-friendly farming methods were prevalent for sometimes that don't use these kind of artificial materials to keep the crops away from the bugs. Yet, since they are expensive and at the same time it is very hard to grow crops without pesticides free from bug damages which will decrease its commercial value, it turns out that it is not as effective as we have expected to be.
Urgency in finding alternatives have alarmed many of us and I do hope that we find a new way!
Thank you for unique topic and I really enjoyed reading your report.
Great work!

Hello Sachin
I could learn that the chemical products that were used for economical comforts eventually damages environment and our own health.
Without technological improvements or reduced use of these chemical products, more and more damages would surely be caused. I think this kind of information should be spread among the farmers so they get the chance to seriously think about the issue.
Thank you for the great report.
