Food and the environment

by Thawdar Aung | 01-01-2020 02:38 recommendations 0

We eat to live and we think we are gonna live for years as we eat properly in a day. We were wrong. If we ignore the relation between food we consume and the environment we live in, our next generations will definitely be affected by our false. What were we doing wrong?

Whenever we go to local market or may be supermarket, we buy things 80% of what we really need and the rest of 20% we buy unnecessary stuffs. Before we go to market, mostly we already thought what we want to buy to cook, to wear, to eat or to drink but when we see a thing that catch our eyes, we decide immediately to buy it without any consideration.  Whenever I go out shopping with my family and when we stop in front of food and beverages counter, I want to buy drinks and foods that I see attractive and delicious. However, I do not have any appetite to eat them anymore when we get home. After some time, those foods were expired and I have to throw it away. What else can I do instead of throwing away? But now, I am educated by seeing how leftover food and wasting food affects the environment, I abandoned that bad habit. Additionally, when we eat meals, we should add cooked rice ( if you are form ASEAN country, cooked rice is the main one, right? ) as just amount we need. Think about the farmers that work hard under sun heat, under rain to grow rice fields for us.

Our leftover food will finally affect the climate change, greenhouse gas by emitting methane gas. Wasting food is the environmental problem. So, change your habit, change for the healthy earth.

    Hey Thawdar!
    This is your mentor Lisa.

Food leftover is a huge problem but also I believe that it is sinful in that while we spend vast amount of money in managing these wastes, in different parts of the world people starve to death. Even though people say that we live in 21st century where we have a very advanced technology in our lives, thousands and millions of children still face death due to famine. This paradox should come to an end. Eating only what we can, what we need is a start.

    Very conventional yet important topic!!
    Thanks for the report:)

Your report made me think one more time about the products I bought and the true necessity of those produces. As you mentioned, some of them were not really necessary and I just bought them on impulse.
Thinking about the effect of those impulsive shopping, I will be more cautious with it.

Thank you for the great report.
