Thematic Report – Environmental issues in Films – ¡®The Real Environmental Disaster¡¯- Thomas Aders I saw this capturing documentary on You Tube. It states that there shall be mass exodus of people from developing countries due to environmental catastrophes, like Draught, Floods, and Hurricanes. The mankind is living at the brink. The developed industrialised nations pollute the poor nations. Its¡¯ ironical that some people are fleeing rising waters others draughts. The population of earth will touch 10 Billion, Greenhouse gases are rising & the temperature of Earth is rising. Many villages are sinking & are under water throughout the year in Indonesia. The reporter takes us to a school in Indonesia where over half the students do not attend classes due to water in the classrooms. Children sits with their legs in water. The school teacher believes that in next 5-6 years the school will submerge & village will be abandoned. Jakarta situated at the island of Java, is the capital is also suffering. Dadap, a slum near the airport gets sub-merged regularly, sometimes for over a week. Districts closest to the coast face the most problems. Ocean level continue to rise, land is collapsing and heavy rains are becoming more frequent. Around one-thirds of Jakarta in below sea level. The government plans to build a sea wall of around 50 Kilometres in order to protect it but only 6 Kilometres are built. 100 Kilometres away from Jakarta, there used to be coffee plantations and very profitable too. But now it is dropping. The plantations have fallen by 60%. The reason is climate change. It is dry in the rainy season & it rains in dry season. Such climate change events may force over 40 million to flee Indonesia. Subsequently the documentary moves to Russia & Nigeria. The climate change is real & its¡¯ happening. Many people do not believe this but now it¡¯s¡¯ high time that we learn lessons & I think it is the duty of developed nations to support the developing nations so that they may fight this menace. Dera Hyeongmin, thanks for your comments. Visible change is a must so that such countries may sustain their population within the country.

Dear Lisa, thanks for your observations. I believe that nobody should flee their home due to natural disasters. Society & Govt. must help them to stay put.

Hello Rohan
I can see that the phenomenons from the climate change has already started to be observed in some area of the earth. Situation of Indonesia which you described in your report is quite shocking to me. Whereas more and more people are living their homeland to escape from the environmental damage, but unfortunately I don't think there is not enough environmental actions being taken from the nations and industries. Before it's too late, there should be visible change in the human society.
Thank you for the great report!

Hey Rohan!
This is your mentor Lisa.
Climate change is no longer a future but it is present. One of the other ambassadors has written an article about the news that UNHCR has officially recognized the status of asylum seekers of the climate refugees. This obviously is good news but it would have been better if they didn't have to flee their homes in the first place.
Although not many of us might realize, as you have well written down, climate change is a serious life-changing disaster for many people.
Great documentary you have got here!
Thank you for the article and I will make sure to check on the film!
Green cheers!
