How you can save trees

by Jaewon Chang | 25-01-2020 14:46 recommendations 0

When you look around, there is a high chance that you will see a piece of paper near your desk or somewhere in your house. Chances are, that sheet of white paper came from a tree. To give a little bit of insight on the significance of trees to our lives, consider the oxygen we inhale. When humans exhale, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. If there was no source consuming the carbon dioxide we exhale, global temperatures would rise after every breath. What prevents this from happening? Trees and plants. Along with this, trees provide oxygen for humans to inhale. With the significance of tree being too grand to negate, we must find methods to preserve them.

Deforestation is a term used in referring to the permanent removal of forests for alternative purposes. It is one of the biggest global issues, contributing 11% of greenhouse gas emissions annually. To combat this issue, we as youth can take measures. A relatively simple example to prevent the loss of trees is to use double-sided paper. Let us imagine an idealistic scenario in which everyone in the world were to use double-sided paper. The number of trees being cut down annually would decrease significantly. Another alternative to paper is electricity. With the rapid development of technology, online notes are a valid alternative to hand-written notes (in the perspective of an environmentalist).

Although these are merely simple procedures that we as youth can take, it can surely make a difference to annual greenhouse gas emissions. Consider using both side of a paper before disposing it.

    Hello Jaewon

I agree with you that the huge number of trees can be saved if people use less papers. In fact, when I look around, a lot of papers are being used without any specific purposes. Some are just being thrown away without even half being filled with something. I also agree with you that the use of papers can be replaced by some technological methods. People should be aware of this issue, and take extra effort to save paper, therefore the trees.

Thank you for the great report.
