The climate change is effecting farmers around the world so badly that they are unable to produce food for the growing population around the globe.Yes climate change is hurting farmers but it's only the farmers who can cope up with it with limited resources so climate smart village is the concept to uplift small holder farming community tackle the climate induced disaster with smart techniques like alternate drying and wetting rice field to minimize insect pest and also reduce water use,using modern tool to detect nutrient required in the field to add only required amount and weather forecasting via radio and instant message to help farmer prepare for for coming situation and plan accordingly for cropping.In Nepal also there are several climate smart village project that help small holder farming community especially women to face climate induced changes and be ready with smart techniques.ICIMOD,liBIRD,CEAPRED etc are working with this project of climate smart village.The government of Nepal has also allocated budget for climate smart village project and currently province no 5 in Nepal is working for this model.The awareness has grown and the implementation of this project is reached to ground level.The model has been proven effective in Nepal,India,and other Asian and African countries.The farmers learn to grow organic crops in the farm using organic pesticides prepared from local herbs,they prepare their own compost,they have solar panels for lights and cooking.By doing this carbon emission is reduced to great level.They also have farmers group and cooperative that help them market their commodity and gain the right value.
Farmers from developing countries are facing this because of the emissions from developed nation but the only thing they can do is adapt with the change and climate smart village is best alternative as Nepal is itself 4th vulnerable country to climate change. While in my stay in Korea,I have been trying to compare the effectiveness of climate smart village model in adapting climate change so if you have any literature regarding this please comment in the comment box. Follow green practice, reduce your carbon footprint,grow more veggies, Reduce chemical pesticides and let the mother nature heal! Thank you for reading! Stay home ,stay safe from Corona! |

Yes, farming is the activity that is most affected by the climate change. However, people cannot blame the situation all the times, but have to find effective methods to combat this issue. Smart village you mentioned is the one of those methods I believe. I hope new and creative ideas would be developed soon so that farming and climate change would be independent to each other. Thank you for your report.

I've never heard about the climate-smart village model, and thanks to your article, I could understand the concept of the topic. It sounds really awesome!
