[Thematic Report] [Problem and Solving] |
---|
by Jaewon Chang | 01-08-2020 13:48 0 |
I'd like to investigate the problem of air pollution, specifically pollutants that are emitted by cars. Though this seems like a large task and there exists no definite solution to the problem, a group of scientists have explored an innovative method.
What are known as "catalytic converters" have a 98% efficiency in extracting the pollutants when utilised in cars and factories. When investigating air quality data following the usage of these gadgets, there is a clear indication to support the benefits of catalytic converters. However, this was simply an innovative solution in the 1950s. It faced many problems, with the major one being its cost, as it often requires the usage of precious metals in order to function. Another problem is regarding its inefficiency, as a large portion of the catalyst does not reach the polluted air. Thus, developments were made in this field, wherein researchers got inspiration from the design of a buttefly's wing. They discovered that replicating its nanoscale arrangement in the design of a catalytic converter would allow more of the catalyst to reach the air. Doing so ultimately increases the tool's efficiency and lowers the cost of producing them.

Hi Jaewon Chang, this is a mentor, Sang Su Lee.
Your article is more of listing the facts than writing your opinion and argument with supporting evidences. If you had included your arguments, the article would have been better. You can state the reason why air pollution is problematic and how those solutions that you've mentioned in your article can help resolve the problems.
Green cheers.

Hello Jaewon,
While starting a research and its trial we have to bear huge consequences. always the research is limited by budget and institutional factors. Indeed, your research is the present context need and we must excel on it. if possible we should look for it to make it more efficient.

Sandesh

Hello Jaewon,
Your report is really fascinating, thanks for sharing. If the design of the butterfly wing is replicated on the design of the catalytic converter it will go a long way in increasing it's efficiency.
Cheers

Hello Jaewon Chang, this is mentor Taehyun!
The catalytic converter that you use to deal with car emissions is a really groundbreaking invention. It can prevent the emission of combustible products (nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, etc.) that are harmful to the various environments that can come from cars. I didn't know it was developed through this process, but it's amazing. I think it would have been better if we looked more specifically at the problem-solving process and solutions with the reference.
Thank you for the report!
Green cheers!
