[Free Report] Car Free Day Dubai is active in organising many environmental events and it encourages the community to participate in such events. One of such environmental events is car free day, September 22 is world car free day. It encourages motorists to give up their cars for a day. While projects along these lines had taken place from time to time on an ad hoc basis starting with the 1973 oil crisis, it was only in October 1994 that a structured call for such projects was issued in a keynote speech by Eric Britton at the International Ciudades Accessibles (Accessible Cities) Conference held in Toledo (Spain). The initiative was launched in 2010 in the United Arab Emirates by the Dubai Municipality, as an annual event called Car Free Day and held during February. It has evolved over the years to become UAE Car Free Day, attracting annually a wide public private participation. This initiative symbolises the UAE vision of building a happy and sustainable global city. The use of public transport in encouraged, which is an important component of protecting the environment and its natural resources and maintaining air quality. Major car parking lots are closed & most the government employees uses public transport on this day. They may alternatively use e-scooters, bicycles and rather walk to the office in case it is walkable distance. Being the first of its kind in the region, UAE Car Free Day initiative is a significant environmental breakthrough. Its goals are aligned with global environmental agreements and aim at decreasing carbon emissions in Dubai, reduce global warming, spread environmental awareness and foster public transport culture. The initiative is also in line UAE Vision 2021 and the United Nations¡¯ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. I also encouraged my father & friends to take public transport on car-free day. Thanks for reading. |

Hi Rohan Kapur, this is a mentor, Sang Su Lee.
Thank you for introducing the background of "car free day" in your country. I believe that collective efforts of all humans can make changes. The epitome of such case is using of the gas called CFC. The usage of CFC has caused ozone depletion and this resulted in detrimental consequences. However, people collectively endeavored not to use this gas and finally could overcome this ozone hole issue. Scientists have predicted that by 2032, the whole ozone hole is going to be filled.
Green cheers.

Hello Rohan Kapur, this is mentor Taehyun!
It sounds like you have a lot of determination to run a car-free day! It would be a great deal of confusion if we banned the use of our own cars even for a day, but if the public transportation infrastructure is good, this policy might be possible! Anyway, I envy you! I hope these policies will be implemented worldwide!
Thank you for the report!
Green cheers!

Hello Rohan,
The use of public transport should be encouraged. We can walk on foot or use bicycle too.
I think the initiative taken by Dubai should be followed by other countries too.
