A torrent of electronic waste is continuously pouring out into the world. In 2016, it reached a record 44.7 million tonnes, or 6.1 kg per capita. This is the equivalent of 4,500 Eiffel towers. An environmental disaster that should accelerate. In a report by the International Communications Union, experts estimate that the volume of this waste is expected to increase by 17% by 2021.
Electronic waste contains substances that are extremely harmful to human health and to waste health, such as mercury, lead, asbestos or arsenic. They are therefore real electronic "bombs" when they end up in landfills. Obviously, electronic pollution generates several environmental consequences such as soil pollution, water contamination (groundwater, waterways), air contamination, contamination of the food chain, products from agriculture and increase the number of landfills or dumps. All of these consequences have a very significant impact on our ecological footprint. The storage of waste is one of the main causes of these consequences. Here's what you can do to help reduce e-waste, too: Donate those that are still in working order to friends or donate them to charity. Choose brands that use recycled products or that offer a recycling program |

I have never really thought of electronic waste in my country Ghana before and this is because we are that lucky to have that much electrical appliances at our disposal. However, with modernization I think this problem will face as soon and with this report, we will be prepared to face it.
