Green Architecture And Environment India has established The Indian Green Building Council(IGBC) which was formed by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in 2001. The council is based on the vision of- "Sustainable built environment for all". In India there are various green buildings or green architecture can be seen. Some of the top are listed below: Suzlon One Earth, Pune The first of the top green buildings in India is Suzlon One Earth which is situated in Pune. The building got its LEED Platinum rating in 2010. The principal architect of Suzlon One Earth was Charles Benninger who designed the building in such a way that the 90% of the building receives natural daylight. Efficient ventilation ensures regulation of fresh air in the building and reduced energy consumption. In this way a lot of energy which should have been used for lightning purpose is conserved. CII- Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Hyderabad Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre is the first LEED Platinum certified building in India. The roof of the building is covered with vegetation to keep temperatures regulated. There are large array of solar panels installed on the buildings which generate around 100-120 units of electricity. This makes Godrej Green Business Centre one of the most energy-efficient buildings in India. The building is based on the sustainable development concept. ITC Maurya, New Delhi ITC Maurya is one of the first and largest LEED Platinum rated hotels in the world. The hotel has been received various awards for being an eco-friendly hotel in India. What makes ITC Maurya stand out is that it recycles over 90% of its waste, which is really appreciated. Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan, New Delhi It is the office of Ministry of External Affairs of India. Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan is designed to maintain the coordination between the environment and its surroundings. The external design of the building is inspired from Lutyen¡¯s era while the interior is completely state-of-the-art. Insulated walls keep the building cool in summers and reduce air conditioning requirements by 30%. Reflecting panels do not let the building get heated in summers while keeping it warm in winters. Efficient waste management and recycling account for better resource management. CFLs have been installed along with vertical gardens giving the building a distinct look. The building also helps in minimizing the energy requirements as well as CFCs release in the environment. ITC Green Centre, Gurgaon ITC Green Centre has received the prestigious LEED certification by USGBC-LEED. With green and sustainable building techniques used during the construction phase, ITC Green Centre has managed to reduce its energy consumption significantly. Double glazed windows do not allow heat to enter the building and double gaze insulation regulates temperature in the building. The building is an example of the sustainable methods used to construct the buildings instead of conventional construction methods which pollute environment. Infinity Benchmark, Kolkata Infinity Benchmark in Kolkata has been awarded the LEED certification for efficient use of energy saving techniques. To reduce pollution levels, electric vehicles are used for commuting within the complex. CO2 monitoring sensors ensure that when CO2 levels rise, necessary measures are taken. The nsulated walls of the building regulate the temperatures in the building thus reducing the need for artificial cooling or heating. This again saving the energy for its air conditioning requirements. The concept of green architecture is surely a new one but it creates a sustainable future and also help in the conservation of nature. Moreover the green buildings are attractive and provides a green surrounding also. |

Hi Pragati,
This is your mentor Yuseon:D
You have introduced the general terms of Green Design, and 6 iconic examples of green architecture. Most of them were actually unfamiliar to me. It would have been even more super if you put in pictures of each building, citing the sources.
Many of the buildings you have introduced seems to have gotten the LEED certificate, which proves that it aims to minimize environmental impact.
Good job overall!
Keep up the good work,
Yuseon

Hi Pragati,
This is your mentor Debbie. :)
I didn??t know that Green Architecture could be called ¡®Green Design?? as well but I can see where it comes from. Thanks for introducing various green constructions with us. It could be improved if you could attach a couple of pictures of them! I looked up Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan in Delhi and the reflective panels do look cool! It??s so shiny, haha :D
Great job writing the article. Keep up the work!
Green Cheers
,
Debbie
