On May 29th, Tunza eco generation Regional Ambassador to Asia (Meena Pandey) in collaboration with International Veterinary Students association (IVSA) Paklihawa, a local chapter of IVSA Nepal conducted a webinar on the topic ¡°Eco-friendly measures to safeguard Wildlife corridors¡±. In this program, we had Mr. Pramod Neupane as the resource person. Taking about the resource person, He is working as the Senior Program Officer- Infrastructure of WWF Nepal. The webinar was divided into two sessions. The first session was presentation session by our resource person and the second session was Question Answer session where participants asked about any queries they had. Initially we had 25 participants at the starting of the program. But we were able to have around 38 participants in the webinar. The program with Mr. Pramod presenting a brief educational video clip that demonstrated the benefits and drawbacks of infrastructure development in a global context and in Nepal. He also mentioned how Asia's highway expansion is causing animal deaths. However, there was some good news for Nepal as the number of tigers and rhinoceroses in Nepal was increasing, and forest-covered territory was plenty in Chitwan- Parsa Complex, Bardiya area and other wildlife reserves and National parks. Similarly, he showed us how infrastructure development could play significant role in increasing Gross National Income per capita. He also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of linear invasions, as well as the causes and effects of human-wildlife conflict which occurs frequently in Nepal. He demonstrated how unnatural wildlife deaths have increased in recent years, as well as mitigating strategies for preventing such fatalities and how these actions were proving to be beneficial. He also told us about how the WWF Nepal works with stakeholders including business owners, engineers, and members of parliament to educate people about sustainable eco-friendly development. Moreover, He also discussed how Covid-19 affects the developing process. He concluded his lecture by discussing zoonotic illnesses and anti-venom, as well as the necessity of anti-venom in Nepal. The second session was Q&A session where participants asked about any queries they had. In Nepal, the concerns of the Nijgadh international airport, the MCC, and the BRI were discussed as raised by participants. Similarly, there was discussion on why there were no sustainable eco-friendly infrastructures and whether current infrastructures could be improved to prevent human-animal conflict. The paucity of wildlife hospitals in Nepal, the lack of a master's level program in wildlife and the importance of zoos in wildlife conservation was also discussed. Mr. Pramod presented a unique viewpoint on a variety of topics and proved to be a very knowledgeable resource. He handled all queries of participants so professionally and nicely. The participants also exhibited thanks to Tunza eco generation and IVSA Paklihawa for arranging this fruitful webinar session. This is brief summary of todays program.
