Thematic Report: July
Carbon Neutrality

Extreme weather conditions such as drought, heat waves, heavy rain, floods, and landslides are becoming more common as a result of climate change all over the world. Carbon neutrality refers to a balance between carbon emissions and carbon absorption from the atmosphere in carbon sinks. In general terms, reaching net-zero carbon dioxide emissions is referred to as carbon neutrality. This can be accomplished by either balancing carbon dioxide emission with their removal (typically through carbon offsetting) or by removing emissions from society altogether.

COVID and climate change have brought us to a fork in the road. We cannot return to the old normal of inequity and instability; rather, we must take steps toward a more secure and long-term route. This is a difficult policy challenge as well as a moral imperative. We must treat pandemic recovery and climate action as two sides of the same coin since today's actions will set the course for decades to come. A carbon footprint is the entire quantity of greenhouse gas emissions produced by a product or service throughout its manufacture, use, and disposal. It contains carbon dioxide, the most prevalent gas generated by humans, as well as other gases such as methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases, all of which trap heat in the atmosphere and contribute to global warming.

So, here are some ways to reduce your Carbon footprint:

-Using reusable water bottle and keeping it filled and with you at all times wherever you go

-walking or cycling to some of the regular short-trip destinations that you do

-Always Turn off lights and unplug devices when you¡¯re not using them

-Always try to eat more food that is grown or made locally and less red meat

-Try to turn-off the heat and AC when you going out of your house

-Recycle or repurpose everything that can be done

-Use alternative transportation (bus, train, carpool, or bike) wherever possible

As we all know that simple activities add up when everyone participates! Choosing to act shows you care about the area we call home, and you want to make mother Earth greener today and for many years to come.

Remember always that you are a Net-Zero Hero if you do what you can do from your side!

    Dear Alok,

This is your mentor Debbie. :)
Thank you for reminding us about how we can deal with carbon neutrality. It's really easy to forget these tiny things but I'm sure if every single one of us reading the article puts these steps into action, the world will definitely change for the better. Thanks for sharing :)

    Green Cheers,
    Debbie
