Thematic Report, November. Air Poluution in Uzbekistan

by Vazira Ikhtiyorova | 09-11-2021 23:15 recommendations 0

Dear all,

Hope you are doing well. I am glad that this month's thematic report is air pollution! Despite the fact that I am right now based in Istanbul, Turkey, I wil have to complete my term regarding Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Recently, Uzbekistan actually main urban territories have suffered from haze and dust which happened for the first time in 150 years!

As a result of dust storms and haze, atmospheric visibility in Syrdarya and Tashkent regions decreased to 500-1000 m, in Tashkent - to 200 m.Similar phenomena were recorded in Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Navoi and Samarkand regions, where visibility does not rise above 1000 m.

Forecasters predict the preservation of dust in the air, since precipitation is not expected in the coming days (with the exception of the southern regions). Dusty-sandy haze is observed in almost all regions of Uzbekistan, except for the northern ones, including the Fergana Valley.

"The results showed that the dust contains a large number of particles up to 5 microns in size. Analysis of the presence of 42 types of pesticides in the dust by gas chromatography showed their complete absence in the selected samples," the Center for Advanced Technologies noted.

In addition, examination of the samples has shown that they are inherently standard dust. The only danger can be represented by its increased amount in the air. The dust contains no heavy metals, salts, pesticides hazardous to human health.

Even though, Uzbekistan has expereinced the loss of Aral Sea, there was not enough done not to lose the lakes or at least diminish the air pollution. It must be very difficult to breath, especially for seniors! The only way to explain people and government was maybe this accident, at least hoping for it. Many people realized that it is the worst thing not to pay attention to air pollution. Hence, here are few recommendations to contribute on behalf of young eco-worriers:

-Reduction of somking will help a lot
-Recycling
-Having trash bins and separting into sorts
-Plant a tree
-Say no to plastic!

I do believe that these small suggestions, like acts will make big impacts. I kindly ask each and every to pay attention where we live. Hope I could convey, thanks!

Hello Vazira, this is your mentor Joon.

Small actions will make big impacts. We should think about what we can do in our daily life. No matter how small it is, as we get to face such issue often, it would accumulate and once we look back with our actions, it would return with huge outcome. It is important to note that people don't take such issue seriously until they actually get to face it. Smogs, fine dust, heavy metals included to air might be such examples. Yet, it would be too late if everyone gets to feel it, so what we have to do is to take a preemptive action and this needs some collective impact of different groups of people. Through such process, hope we can come up with some satisfactory solutions.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
