[Thematic Report] Lockdown Due to Air Pollution

by Pranav Gaba | 27-11-2021 12:09 recommendations 0

This is a severe air pollution case of a city, which already is one of the most polluted cities in the world. A toxic haze has blanketed the streets of Delhi since the festival of Diwali has been over. Just a day after the festival of Diwali, Delhi's AQI level shot up to the maximum reading of 999 in many parts of the capital where smog covered the city.

Authorities in the Indian capital Delhi shut all schools and colleges indefinitely after several parts of the city recorded severe air quality. Construction work was banned until 21st November and only 5 of the 11 coal-based power plants in the city were allowed to operate.

The levels of PM2.5 - tiny particles that clog lungs - in Delhi are far higher than the World Health Organisations' safety guidelines. As per the report, Delhi will reopen schools, colleges in physical mode from November 29th, after one week of intense lockdown.

The lockdown-like measures were first imposed in Delhi on 13th November. Delhi's state administration shut its offices last week and told government employees to work from home. Private offices were also advised to allow their employees to work from home.

As per the latest update, heavily-polluting, diesel-guzzling trucks entering Delhi from border checkpoints will be allowed from today onwards.

Have you solved the citation problem?
Mentor Joon seems to have given great comment, and I use both of the citation methods that he mentioned.

Hello Pranav, this is your mentor Joon.

Sadly, we are not allowed to have personal meetings according to policy.

However, I can teach you how by this comment and e-mail.

If you still have doubts after my following explanations, please send a mail to joon.mentor@gmail.com

Let's assume your have directly quoted from a source. For instance :
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-59383324

on above article, assume you have used the quote

Ornamental palm trees - some of them planted soon after independence from British colonial rule in the 1960s - have not been spared either.

directly. Then, on your report, you should write such as:

    (content before)
according to BBC News "Ornamental palm trees - some of them planted soon after independence from British colonial rule in the 1960s - have not been spared either."1
    (content after)

Though there are different styles of citing it, I recommend you to put a number after the end

and on the most below, write

    References
    1. Onyango, By Emmanuel. ¡°Kenya Tree Felling Sparks Anger over Nairobi??s New Highway.¡± BBC News, 27 Nov. 2021, www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-59383324.

This can be done by using
    https://www.scribbr.com/mla-citation-generator/
this site, which automatically produces different citation styles such as MLA, Chicago, and so on. I prefer MLA, but different way does not really matter.

If it is indirect citation, which you just read the article and made it into your own word, you do not need to put any number. Just generate a citation and put to to reference list.

so if you used https://edition.cnn.com/travel/article/france-burgundy-wine-disaster-cmd/index.html this source which was not directly quoted, just add to reference list like following:

    References
    1. Onyango, By Emmanuel. ¡°Kenya Tree Felling Sparks Anger over Nairobi??s New Highway.¡± BBC News, 27 Nov. 2021, www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-59383324.
    2. Bell, By Cnn Melissa. ¡°France Has Suffered a Wine ¡®disaster.?? But There Could Be a Silver Lining.¡± CNN, 26 Nov. 2021, edition.cnn.com/travel/article/france-burgundy-wine-disaster-cmd/index.html.

After if you want to make another direct citation on https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/hyderabad/ngt-panel-recommends-rs-2cr-environment-compensation/articleshow/87938557.cms,

    (before content)
According to the times of India, "The case is in connection with the change in scope of the flood flow canal and Gouravelli reservoir in Telangana. NGT South bench has constituted a joint committee comprising the Ministry of Forest and Environment, Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) and Central Water Commission." 3
    (after content)

The number is 3, as it is on the third of the reference list. So your list will be

    References
    1. Onyango, By Emmanuel. ¡°Kenya Tree Felling Sparks Anger over Nairobi??s New Highway.¡± BBC News, 27 Nov. 2021, www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-59383324.

Though the following ambassador did not use direct citation, Just use it as an example:

If you have further doubts, please mail me!

    Thanks,

    Dear mentor Joon and Hannah,
Greetings. Hope you both are keeping well with yourself.

Today, i have a small request to make. If it's okay with you, can we please schedule a short zoom meeting where you can teach me how to give references in an article? I have posted all my reports each month but I am not very confident if that's the right way to write a report. I would be really grateful if you can take the time to teach me how to write great reports.

    Let me know.

    Best,

    Pranav
