Crisis on Earth - Cholistan Drought 2022

by Momina Ahsan | 30-05-2022 23:42 recommendations 0

In the scorching heat of summer, with moisture levels drastically high and land temperature at extreme, blazing soil like the fire, animals were suffering and lingering for food, water, and necessities of life. Humankind was suffering and looking forward to the sky for the droplets of rain. Despite all these efforts, things seemed quite devastating, and climatic conditions kept on going severely. With the peeling skin of lips, and the drenching sound of lungs, the light of hope that was lit in the eyes of life started getting dim with every sunset. Yes! There was drought roaring on the Land and making things worst for life to exist!!!

This is the condition of a renowned area of Asian country, having the history of forts, with the Royal appearance, famous for being the Plain of Camels - CHOLISTAN Desert area, Pakistan. The Cholistan Desert covers about 26,000 km2, which corresponds to 26% of the 110,000 km2 of the country's total desert area and 3% of its overall surface area. The average annual rainfall in the desert ranges from 100 to 200 mm. Consequently, freshwater availability is very limited.

In 2022, the Cholistan Desert area reported the highest temperature of the summer season and became one of the most heated regions in the globe. Due to no rainfall, there is a drought condition prevailing for the last 3 months, leading to insufficient water for life survival and a shortage of food, making death dive above the heads of living beings. Due to water scarcity and food shortage, different organizations started their volunteer work to supply medicines, feed, and water to the area on an emergency basis. Organizations have launched the Emergency Survival programs and have swiftly taken the initiative to save lives, yet, the conditions are getting worst due to inadequate rainfall. With the increasing temperature by each day, the conditions are getting worst, with over 50 sheep, goats, and cows dying in a few days.

The Cholistan has a human population of over 0.2 million and cattle population of over 1.2 million besides tens of thousands of wildlife species,¡± said Riaz Baloch, a Cholistani farmer, adding that the desert region had been experiencing the worst condition of drought as adequate rains did not fall for a long time. Reports reaching here suggested that thousands of people along with their cattle have been forced to leave the Cholistan and move to other areas due to the non-availability of water for their families and cattle.

There is a dire need to start worldly campaigns, launch social media campaigns, and spread the word for the survival of the Cholistani people. Local governments, the people of Pakistan, and surrounding cities and districts are having their maximum efforts to send the survival kits for the people and animals. Yet, there is a shortage that needs to be catered to. It is time to take climatic changes seriously and start awareness campaigns before it's too late. Global organizations like FAO, UN aids, and other global programs must take action to save humanity from lingering death. Or else! The Cholistan crisis would be the worst scenario, with dead bodies spread everywhere on Earth and humanity crying about the fate of Climatic actions.

Let's raise voice for Cholistan and save this Plain of Camels, before its too late!
Let's raise voice for climatic changes and save this Planet, before its too late!

Hello Momina, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

Thank you for sharing stories from your local region. I think ¡°climate change¡± is the most serious problem among the existing environmental issues. The photos in this article show how severe the problems may have been caused by abnormal climates there in Pakistan. With not only support from the government, but also efforts to start awareness campaigns and immediate movements to cope with these problems, I think that these are crucial to slow the deterioration of the situation. I hope everyone??s support and actions will help, and continue to save Pakistan.

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Hello Momina, this is your mentor Joon.

It apparently seems like a sad situation caused by global warming and climate change. If it was not for the climate change, there would have been plenty water supplies. If it was not for human's negative activities, climate change would not have happened. Though it is hard to recover from what it already happened, we could do our best on what we can do. By concentrating and taking into the action, we may be able to save this planet as well as camels before it is too late.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
