ONLY ONE EARTH AND ONE CHANCE FOR CHANGE

by IMMANUEL MWENDWA KIILU | 20-06-2022 04:47 recommendations 1

Imagine what our planet must have looked like millions of years ago, before the arrival of man. Imagine the clear skies, the blue seas, the lush forests. Today, we see polluted air, melting ice caps, deforestation, and many other problems that were caused by our actions toward Earth. We need to act fast to reverse these problems that we have caused, or at least hinder them until a solution can be found. The window for change is still open, but it is closing rapidly.

I read a lot about these problems in random articles from my popular science magazines; The Scientific African Magazine and Eco Africa and shows I watch on National Geographic. I read about the different theories of how mankind will come to an end, about how global warming will cause ice caps to melt, or how deforestation will cause a major reduction in levels of oxygen and reduce animal habitats.

Currently, the earth is a beautiful living planet in the Universe and the common habitat of more than 7 billion human populations and millions of species of biodiversity. Our Earth is providing us with food, shelter, and most of our requirements.

Despite unavoidable free services provided by the earth to humans, we are not able to pay off her kindness to us. Rather we humans are being cruel to our Earth with our selfish activities. Mahatma Gandhi said, ¡°Earth provides enough to satisfy every man¡¯s needs, but not every man¡¯s greed.¡±

We can genuinely conclude that we, the habitants of earth, have played a large part in destroying our mother nature and earth in its full element. However, all hope is not lost, we can still save our earth and protect it at all costs.

In order to save the earth, we must understand that the resources that are provided by earth are limited. Hence, it is important to make the most use of what we have right now in a sustainable manner. Our approach will not only save the earth but our lives as well. Moreover, our future generation will be bestowed with a healthy environment to live in. To achieve this, we can live by the mantra- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, keep our surroundings clean, plant more trees, and educate people about the significance of conserving nature.

However, many think technology can save us and that scientists will create an innovation that will help slow global warming and the other problems we are facing. Nevertheless, technology is a tool that will only help us, not do the job for us. We humans must take initiative to save our planet.

So, the problem is known to many across the world, but the question is how to stop it. ¡°How can I help the cause?¡± There are always simple but effective answers like, ¡°Throw your trash away into the trash can.¡± or ¡°Ride a bike to school or town.¡± But I believe we can do more, we can go beyond. We can create groups in our communities and raise awareness of the situation and help generate new ideas of how to help our planet. Communities can get together and raise money to help find a reliable alternative fuel. Nations need to get together because this involves everyone, every country, and every one of us to do our part.

As a member and an ambassador of Tunza Eco – Generation a platform that is looking to help the cause for a greener planet, I educate my fellow friends and members of societies on the environmental issues affecting us, by writing engrossing environmental articles and volunteering by creating awareness. I believe that my small efforts sustained over time can produce significant results in my society and globally, As an individual, what keeps me striving is that the natural world is changing, and we are totally dependent on that world. It provides our food, water, and air. It is the most precious thing we have and we need to defend it.

Indeed, clocks are ticking, and the only planet we have to live on is changing right before our eyes. What are we going to do about it? And What are you doing about it?

Hello Immanuel, this is your mentor Joon.

'We Only Have One Earth' is a Slogan for World Environment Day 2022, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of its dedication. Human beings just act as if we have free health insurance plans for earth, even though we only have one earth in this world. It is really hard to recover what it is already destroyed and therefore, the best way to protect the planet is to not pollute and destroy in the first place. Though there were lot of advancements made, we still have much more to go.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
