Energy Transition (free report for June 2022)

by Prince Foley | 20-06-2022 07:04 recommendations 1

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies will play a major role in this energy transition by decarbonizing existing and new fossil fuel power plants and the production of low-carbon fossil-fuel-based blue hydrogen. Blue hydrogen can be used for hydrogen fuel cell mobility in the transport sector and heat and feedstock in the industry sector.

CO2 can be captured using different methods. The main ones are: post-combustion, pre-combustion and oxyfuel. Post-combustion technology removes CO2 from the flue gases that result from burning fossil fuels.

Once the CO2 has been captured, it is compressed into liquid state and transported by pipeline, ship or road tanker. CO2 can then be pumped underground, usually at depths of 1km or more, to be stored into depleted oil and gas reservoirs, coalbeds or deep saline aquifers, where the geology is suitable.

At the moment, CCS is the only technology that can help reduce emissions from large industrial installations. It could be an essential technology for tackling global climate change.

Hello Prince, this is your mentor Chelwoon.

CCS technology can contribute to our environment in many ways. It can applied not only in fossil fuel power plants, but also in many other types of plants. such as steel-production plants. In the past, we mostly got hydrogen from methane(CH4) without any post-process for removing carbon dioxide. However, these days, we produce it with CCS technologies, which is called ¡®blue hydrogen??.
The ideal way is producing it with electric power generated from renewable energy, which is called ¡®green hydrogen??. However, there are still some challenges to commercialize green hydrogen, so I would like you to search them!

    Thank you for the article!

    Regards,
    Chelwoon

Hello Prince, this is your mentor Joon.

Carbon Dioxide is a major source of Greenhouse gases which accelerates the global warming. Different studies and researches have been made in order to reduce the emission and Carbon capture and storage is one of the ways suggested by studies. By capturing the carbon dioxide which are produced during manufacturing process, and storing it, it could be reused in adequate factories which uses co2 during it processing steps. Though lots of investments should be made beforehand, it is cheaper than the price we should pay afterwards.

Well read your article, and let's keep up!

    Best,

    Joon
