Green Certification Programs Green certification programs are basically a set of programs used to indicate the level of environment friendliness for real estate properties. They are a set of rating systems and tools that aim to assess a building or a construction project¡¯s performance from sustainability and environmental point of view. Thus, these ratings improve the overall quality of infrastructures, buildings and promote to eco-friendly and sustainable measures. Buildings possess huge impacts on the environment that may be either direct or indirect. During their construction, occupancy, renovation, repurposing, demolition etc. buildings use energy, water, and raw materials, generate waste, dusts and release inherently harmful emissions to the atmosphere. These facts have evoked the creation of green building standards, certifications, and rating systems focused at attenuating the impact of buildings on the natural environment through sustainable design. The main objective of green certification programs is reducing the consumption of natural energy resources during construction and afterwards too. There are many approaches to green certification in the world as it is the need of the hour to reconciliation of the human hazards to the nature somehow. For stance, BREEAM (the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is an international program that recognizes sustainable buildings and infrastructure projects. Also, Energy Star is another well-known green building certification that¡¯s offered through the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. However, Nepal has not yet started this approach except Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for large scale industries, airport. It is worth noting for country like Nepal to learn and apply the measures that green certification programs pursues to construct and operate healthy measures. Each of these initiatives evaluates the impacts that buildings have on the environment as well as the way they were built and how they can be disposed of in the future. In general, all of these certification programs are aimed at preserving and enhancing the quality of buildings and reducing their negative impact on the environment. They allow extending the design to consider the facility¡¯s sustainability, utility, and comfort. Despite the active development of new construction technologies, the main criteria are identical in terms of energy efficiency, attention to the environment and health of citizens, and the reduction of emissions and hazardous wastes. Thus, green certification programs should be erected for the sake of uplifting the environmental policy. Only this way, we can save the modern world. If it¡¯s not for the green technology, then we can¡¯t be uplifting the environmental policy and as well as our dear long and old earth rather; is an undeniable and unquestionable truth. Hello Sonika, this is your mentor Chelwoon.
Thank you for introducing us to different building green certification programs. We can easily find various green certification programs in the world. There are so many green certification programs that we are sometimes confused because some of them seem like the same with each other. We need to check whether we have only focused on making new programs or we have run them in right ways.
+ Good to see you cite the source in a right way!
Thank you for the article!

Hello Sonika, this is your mentor Joon.
There exists different green certification programs on various fields, and out of them, it seems you have researched about certifications applied to buildings! Though the specific points and evaluation methodology may differ by fields and organizations testing it, the purpose is same: to protect our planet earth from environmental risks including climate change. Yet, such certifications do not have enough strengths as it is not forced by law. I believe it should be reinforced so that more products and projects could become sustainable.
Well read your article, and let's keep up!
Best,
Joon
