March Theme Report | Wildlife Preservation

by Aysara Nuratdinova | 06-03-2023 23:01 recommendations 0

One of the reasons why wildlife preservation is important is an ecosystem. Every living thing on Earth is connected to every other life form. Any type of organism, whether a lion or a person, contributes significantly to the environment. The goal of wildlife conservation is to preserve this ecosystem of interconnected species. For example, if all the lions are killed, the number of herbivores will rise. The ecosystem will lose its balance as a result.

In Uzbekistan, topic of wildlife preservation especially extinction of animal matters a lot. My hometown Karakalpakstan, Kungrad is a habitat for the oddest and oldest antelope Saiga which is unfortunately being endangered nowadays. The saiga is predominantly killed for its horns, which are used in traditional medicine in some Asian countries. Therefore several countries are banning the use of any saiga products, including horns and meat. Every year, researchers from Saiga Conservation visit local schools and organize an educational event for schoolchildren to increase awareness about importance of wildlife and prevent any ways of hunting them.

Several steps  that we can take for wildlife conservation : First of all we need to record the number of wildlife including both fauna and flora in a particular area e.g university campus, which can be done by Bioblitz activities. Now we should keep the campus clean from trash in particular plastic bags, twines and balloons as they can easily trap and kill birds and other smaller animals. Then we should develop general awareness among locals regarding protection of those wildlife and imposing fines for illegal hunting of wild animals.

Let¡¯s strive to fight against hunting and trade of wild animals and keep the wildlife sustainable to our next generations!

Hi Aysara, this is your mentor Yewon!

Thank you for writing such a good report! I was especially interested in your story about saiga. I hope that saiga could be protected from human activities so that they can remain safe!

And I was also very interested in your suggestions to protect wildlife. I heard that in our university, some students are doing wildlife prevention work by recording what species are living on our campus and protecting them! Overall, I agree with your all suggestions, too!

Thank you again for your good report!

Hello Aysara! This is your mentor James!

Thanks for contributing your helpful report to this website! I can see a few ambassadors being inspired by your writing!

You chose an accurate topic which is related to the theme and represents your region simultaneously. I rarely knew about this antelope Saiga! It is such a tragedy that these beautiful creatures are killed for their horns. To stop this killing, it is important to raise awareness and keep track of the left species in nature, as you have mentioned above! Maybe creating national parks by the government can be an effective way as well!

Just as saiga are hunted mercilessly for their horns, world over the wildlife is falling prey to unscrupulous humans who kill them for medicinal use. This should be strongly banned by the governments.
