[March Theme Report] Wildlife Preservation: The Devastating Impact of Human Activity on Animal Populations

by Nguyen Trang | 16-03-2023 17:09 recommendations 0

Animals have been coexisting with humans for thousands of years, but it is only in recent times that human activity has had an increasingly devastating impact on animal populations. Human activity such as deforestation, pollution, hunting, and climate change has resulted in the extinction and endangerment of numerous animal species. This blog post will explore the extent of human impact on animal populations and the consequences of our actions.

  1. Habitat Destruction

One of the primary reasons for the decline of animal populations is habitat destruction. Human activity such as deforestation and urbanization result in the destruction of animal habitats, leaving them with no place to live. For instance, the Amazon rainforest, which is home to over 10% of the world¡¯s known species, is being destroyed rapidly by human activity. The loss of habitat is a significant threat to animals that rely on specific ecosystems to survive. Without suitable habitats, animal populations become fragmented, and in some cases, become extinct.

  1. Hunting and Poaching

Another way in which humans have destroyed animal populations is through hunting and poaching. In many cultures, hunting for food and sport is a common practice. However, it is the illegal poaching of animals for their skin, bones, and other body parts that has had a more significant impact on animal populations. Poachers target animals such as elephants, rhinos, and tigers for their valuable parts, resulting in the decimation of their populations. The loss of these top predators can have a cascading effect on entire ecosystems, leading to imbalances and further loss of animal populations.

  1. Climate Change

Climate change is another significant threat to animal populations. Human activity such as the burning of fossil fuels has resulted in the release of greenhouse gases, leading to global warming. The resulting changes in temperature and weather patterns have had a significant impact on animal habitats and migration patterns. Animals that rely on specific temperature ranges or rainfall patterns are struggling to adapt, resulting in population decline or extinction. Additionally, climate change is causing sea levels to rise, leading to the loss of important habitats such as coral reefs and coastal wetlands.

The devastating impact of human activity on animal populations cannot be overstated. Habitat destruction, hunting, and poaching, and climate change are just a few examples of human activities that have led to the decline and extinction of numerous animal species. We must take action to prevent further damage to animal populations and their habitats. This can be achieved through conservation efforts, habitat restoration, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. By taking these actions, we can help to ensure that future generations can appreciate the beauty and diversity of the animal kingdom.

Hello again! This is mentor Yewon.

This time you have written about three main causes of wildlife destruction.

I agree with all the causes you mentioned above. In particular, I think climate change is a serious problem for wildlife because climate change is extremely difficult to control.

As you mentioned in your report, it's time to take action to preserve wildlife. I think we should consider specific means to preserve wildlife!

Thank you for your great work!

    Hello Ngyuyen!
    This is your mentor James.

First of all, what a well-structured report! You have illustrated the negative impacts of human activity on wildlife in your introduction. Then you have listed the three most impactful causes of wildlife destruction.

I really appreciate the fact that you mentioned climate change in one of your reasons. Compared to deforestation and hunting, climate change may have a far more extensive impact on an entire ecosystem, thereby affecting hundreds or thousands of species. Thus, slowing down climate change is one of the major goals that our society must achieve.

Thanks for your wonderful report! I'll look forward to read your next one too!
