[February Free Report] The Future of Environment and Nature in Saudi Arabia

by Baekjin Kim | 29-02-2024 04:01 recommendations 0

Saudi Arabia is a country that is largely dependent on its production of oil. With this supply, they experience quick urbanization and the rapid development of the working sectors. However, these developments are not unlimited. The oil supply not only is harmful to the environment, but it is also not sustainable. Hence, through their ambitious project, Saudi Arabia strives to be more sustainable in their energy supply.

Saudi Arabia has a determined objective towards a Net Zero future by 2060. According to their VISION 2030 Project, the Saudi Arabian government currently has a commitment to clean energy and sustainability and started to promote change in tackling energy and climate challenges. For instance, they have proposed an innovative solution for the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE) and an increasingly diverse energy mix, in which 50% of the energy of Saudi Arabia will come from renewable sources by 2030.

The environment and biodiversity are also in danger. With the rapid development, the nature of Saudi Arabia is becoming more limited. However, they are being protected through sustainable agriculture and conservation efforts. For instance, the creation of wildlife sanctuaries and sustainable tourism initiatives preserve the natural environment of the Kingdom. The Kingdom also introduced more sectors of their vision, as they are currently developing the AlKhafji Desalination Plant to subsequently desalinize water, and low power research reactor which could improve energy sustainability. Vision 2030 ultimately provides people with an elevating quality of life, but also introduces sustainable urban greening which increases the awareness of the environment and energy to the people.

Saudi Arabia shows foresight by setting an ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060. It is interesting to see how the Vision 2030 project promotes clean energy and sustainability. The initiatives to implement a circular carbon economy and diversify energy sources, as well as protect the environment through nature reserves and sustainable tourism, are impressive.
It should be noted that achieving these goals will require significant effort and investment. It will be interesting to monitor Saudi Arabia's progress in implementing the Vision 2030 project and its impact on the country and the region as a whole.
