Vetiver - A Herbal of India prevents natural disaster like erosion of soil near seashore

Yesterday night my grandma and grandpa told my cousin that vetiver is one of the best medicines for curing pimples. They also told that the vetiver water is used to cure diabetes. It grows in all area but sandy area is better for its growth.  It is a grass type and it borne in India.  They grow up to 1.5m in height.  Its roots penetrate up to 2 – 4m depth in the ground.  After getting this news from my grandparents I search about vetiver in the internet and I found many useful tips about it and I want to share all those with you.  Also I read one article about it in newspaper on 31.07.2011.  I recall the same this time.  I have that article for my album I take that one to all places wherever I have given an awareness speech.

For 1 acre we can yield 2 ton of vetiver.  One ton cost is Rs. 50,000/=.  Herbal oils and scents are prepared from this. We pluck the plant with the roots and remove the green grass part and clean the roots, used it for several purposes. It takes 12 – 13 months to grow fully. Green grass part is used as a food for cows, goats etc. No need for agro chemicals fertilizers, and manure. Vetiver itself kills pests and insects.  We can plant this in big vegetable gardens for preventing vegetables from pests and insects. If we plant it in clayey soil it loosens the soil also reduces basidity of the soil.  It does the work of earthworms. No need for huge amount of water to grow this. It reduces the soil erosion. If we plant it near the seashore, rivers, dams, hilly areas the erosion is tobe avoided and so the accidents.  If we plant it in sloppy areas we can save the rail water as well as reduce the soil erosion.

Engineer Luis Lukina plants the vetiver in Brazil, Sabula?s Bert yoga beach side and prevents this area from erosion. He used the Geotex-coir bed made from coconut fiber.  He laid it on the ground as a bed then plants the vetiver.  It protects the village from soil erosion caused by big waves of the sea. If we grow it near the support walls of the bridges, the pillars do not erose from water force during flood.  In Australia, Baltrank plants this in the support walls of the bridges to make the bridges strong. In 1988 Salvador was prevented by the cyclone and also Vietnam was protected by this vetiver before 50 years from the hurricane only because of vetiver.
