Tunza Eco Event at Macdonald Drive Junior High School (MDJH)

Hello Friends,

Are you concerned about the environment? On Friday December 13th Tunza Eco Generation will be at your school. Eco Generation is a global project coordinated by Samsung Engineering and United Nations Environmental Programme.  It is a platform for concerned youth to become involved in environmental issues on a global scale. If you would like to get involved, please drop at lunchtime next Friday December 13th in main lobby!

This is the message that hundreds of students at Macdonald Drive Junior High saw in their newsletter. This past Friday I had the pleasure of hosting my first event under Tunza Eco Generation as the Ambassador of Canada at MDJH, my junior high school and a school that places environmental awareness top on their list of priorities. So far MDJH has reached the Silver Status for Canada?s Green Schools!  They have completed 57 environmental projects so far with a goal of 100! For such a school Tunza would be the perfect platform to further their environmental endeavours. So, I set up a center in their main lobby to inform students about Tunza and the opportunities it can offer to them and their schools. In North America, sometimes it can be hard to get a response for environmental activities because of the lack of negative effects we experience first hand directly related to climate change. But, the response from the students at the school was phenomenal. When asked many replied that they would be very interested in joining Tunza. I was also able to collect the interest and spread a message about the poster contest I am thinking to have local schools after Christmas. The best way for one to show what something means to them is through art. So, students will show what the environment and conservation means to them through art. The interest for this was also very great! Often schools are the best place to spread a message about the environment. Environmental friendliness is a personal attribute that exists within oneself and can be implemented at a young age. If we can reach out to a large group of children and youth, then the next generation can have this trait of environmental friendliness! So, friends, if you have some time go to a local school and discuss the environment and get students involved in environmental activities. You can not only spread Tunza?s mission but also awaken that trait of environmental friendliness in a child. You can be part of that wave of change as we strive to make this next generation, our generation, a greener one!
