Tree Planting in Coordination with the Provincial Environmental Unit

Our city is just a small city, around 50 kilometers away from the big and  known Davao City. Tagum City, as what our place is called, is not known for any breath-taking sceneries, not until we discovered that the very first botanical park is now being developed to soon become a tourist spot in the future.

Located in San Agustin, the San Agustin Botanical Park was developed under the funding of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tagum City. The place got the Baguio City feeling in it - mountainous view, with plants that dwell only in cold places like pine trees grown all over and the peaceful feel that it gives.

I never expected that we already had this kind of place in our city. The place was hidden from the public eye before because it was still owned by a private person. The city decided to buy the huge land since it was very far from the city proper, and decided to develop it into something that can be attractive and tourist-compelling.

There are already plans for the beautification of the area and little by little, the plans are being executed. You may see a lot of plants though, but the park still has some unplanted areas.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), the environmental unit of Davao del Norte province, takes its part as the agency in-charge of the manpower for planting of the trees.

Because of this, PENRO decided to carry out a Tree Planting. I, together with my teacher in Chemistry, decided to take part in the activity.

We travelled almost a kilometer away from where I was standing at this picture below to plant the trees prepared for us there.

original point

The place was slippery that time because it rained during the dawn. But it was not a concern for me and for my other companions right there. We treated it as part of the challenge. And after the long walks along the slippery trail, we went back to the platform area to share our snacks together and talked for some while.

I enjoyed the feeling of planting trees. I planted a total of 12 trees and it was a fulfillment to my part already.

I am planning to revisit the site again some time soon for another environmental activity and to check the first 12 trees that I have planted in the soon-to-be tourist spot of our city.

I hope to share more about the progress of the park along the future..
