Our environment is changing and the effect is being felt by all. Initially, it was not thought to be of relevance to Sierra Leoneans but there is a huge change in our weather and season and this article is meant to examine such a change.  A few instances will be drawn to this issue of climate change.

There is a tremendous change in the season of Sierra Leone. In March, it is suppose to be the mid of the dry season where we have an extremely hot weather conditions. This year has been observed to be different because there is a usual chill air in the weather like in the rainy season which is supposed to be 3 months away from now. This has made some inhabitants to believe that maybe, we will start experiencing snowflakes in Sierra Leone which is still a novelty to us.

Moreover, there is huge rise in sea levels. I live in Aberdeen, the main tourist attracted area in Freetown and we are surrounded by beautiful and lovely beaches. I have observed with keen interest that the sea level is rising which has made it in a way difficult for domestic fishermen to carry on with their daily fishing occupation. It will be further feared that such levels might lead to flooding in the area as the sea levels cannot be predicted.

In addition to that, most sociologists have acclaimed that such climate will lead to teenage pregnancy and increase in the number of pregnant women in the country. Most of the teenagers are not comfortable with such cold weather and will lean on their boyfriends who will do their masculine duty of impregnating them and that will swell up the population in the country.

All of these are some of the effects and presently, we are campaigning for most healthy living situations to attain a suitable weather condition in the country.
