Not only yellow dust, but also particulates

by | 22-03-2014 22:49 recommendations 0

Every March, Korea was suffering from the yellow dust that came from desert of China and Mongolia with harmful matter. Additionally, Korea was putting on emergency alert by particulates. Then what are the particulates?

Particulates are tiny pieces of solid or liquid matter associated with the Earth's atmosphere. Some particulates are occured by natural phenomenons such as volcanoes and dust storms. However, since human activities are influencing to some mechanical movements, pollutants from burning of fossil fuels, power plants, and various industrial processes also generate significant amounts of particulates.

These contaminated particles could give us a serious effects, including lung cancer. To avoid these dangerous environment pollutant, we should control ourselves from going outside when the ultrafine particles concentration is lasting above 120?g/m?per hour for more than 2 hours. Moreover, we should change masks frequently.

The Earth is getting hotter and hotter due to more and more developing industries that affect very critical impacts to the Earth and creatures by emitting some fatal pollutants. Therefore, we should at least make an effort to prevent the worst case unless we improve this environmental problem directly.

Thank you for the article, Doeun. Recently I got a conjunctivitis caused by allergic response on fine dust from China. I don't really feel good about it :-( It's scary that I became a direct victim of the environmental problem.

Thanks for updating us with dust situation in Korea. From picture it is obvipus how bad it is. People should really take care of their health and hygiene under such circumstances like you suggested -changing masks more frequently.

A very informative article. SPMs (Suspended Particulate Matter) are not only very harmful for the natural environment but also cause many respiratory diseases such as asthma, tuberculosis (TB),etc. Thanks for sharing :)
