Why is China So important to the Global collaboration for the climate change talks?

China is rapidly developing, already its market becoming the world's 2nd largest economy. China's carbon emission is the largest for now. China's influence on the earth's climate is so crucial that we could say China is the first key for solving the climate change problem. China could also be a leading nation among other developing countries in climate change talks. Then, let's see whether China has worked up to its role's importance or not.

When ratifying the Kyoto Protocol, China's responsibility was rather minor, because it was categorized as a developing country. By the "Common but differentiated responsibilities" clause, developing countries could focus more on the development than reduction of carbon emissions. China's official ground could be compressed into "China is still a developing country, so our primary goal is developing the economy, wiping out poverty, and improving our citizens' life quality." China has also asserted that it could not accept any binding or compulsory target regarding the climate change.

As responsibilities for developing countries grow to be seen necessary, tension between developed countries and developing countires intensified. Truly, China has had a lot of difficulty in reaching an agreement with US and EU in UN climate talks so far. However, China is changing. China has always tried to make blueprints for sustainable development as possible. It is still going toward balanced, eco-friendly way.
