Human population increase each year. Every people need foods to support the daily activities. What be a combination between this two statements is nowadays occur the increases of food supply demand.

What we call ?Food security? now is one of main issues that human face. The decline of crop land as an effect of industry development was coerce us to eat fast or not healthy food. In this case, it?ll affect our health. In the long term, It?ll decrease our life quality.

As my effort to take part in solving this problem, I?ve tried to optimize the backyard of my house with TOGA and SURGA planting. What are TOGA and SURGA. TOGA is abbreviation of Tanaman Obat Keluarga (Indonesia Languange), it means Herbs for Family (medicine). SURGA is abbreviation of Sayuran Keluarga (Indonesia Language), it means Vegetables for family. Both of them are used to support family needed about healthy and fresh food.

Many kinds of herbs and vegetables that we can plant in the backyard. We can plant mustard green, cabbage, spinach, tomato etc as vegetable kinds.  Ginger, turmeric, jinsom, etc as herb kinds. All of herb and vegetable kinds that we plan to plant depend on our region potency. To solve limited backyard, we can use verticulture method or other planting method that can adapt in limited area.

Start from our self is the key to solve ?food security? problems. Start how to use limited area that we have to support our needed about fresh food. Also, we should see again our lifestyle in food consumption.

We call it kitchen garden. In India we used to have a big kitchen garden at out Grand Parents house. It contained many fruit trees, Flowers, Herbs, vegetables etc.
They used to have so much produce that the excess was distributed free among the workers and other needy persons.

Thank you for the vivid story, Anwari. Our family also have a small garden in backyard. Garden farming gives us lots of benefits. We don't go shop as often as before because most of basic vegies are in our house, haha. And we can feel sure that the vegies are safe and pesticide-free.
