March 16, 2014, apleasurefor metoshareaboutbioporito citizensin Klidon, Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. These activity in order as my program on community development program. Here, I wanna to share what I?ve shared about biopori with them.

Biopori is cylindrical hole madevertically into the ground with a diameter of 10 cm and a depth of about 100 cm, or in the case of land with shallow ground water surface , not to exceed the depth of the water table . Holes filled with organic waste to trigger the formation of Biopori .Biopori is a hole shaped pores ( small tunnel ) made by the activity of soil animals or plant roots.

Biopori is appropriate technologies and environmentally friendly way to prevent floods

( 1 ) enhance the diffusion of water : The presence of the biopori as to enhance the field of water seepage, at least the vast size of the column / wall hole .
( 2 ) transform organic waste into compost and reduce greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 and methane ) seepage pits biopori " activated " by providing organic waste into it . Trash will be used as a source of energy for soil organisms to do their activities through the decomposition process . Trash that has decomposed is known as compost .
( 3 ) take the role of soil animal activity and root crops, and overcome the problems posed by stagnant water such as dengue fever and malaria disease .
Biopori submitting a free pass by people, especially the children . Therefore placement should be arranged in such a way to fit into the existing landscape . Because it functions as a water diffuser placement, biopori performed at the location where the water would naturally tend to congregate or water is directed to where the biopori is.

Here is how to create biopori

1 . Create a cylindrical hole vertically into the ground with a diameter of 10 cm .depth of ?100 cm ( 1 meter ) or less beyond the water table when the water shallow soil . The distance between the hole between 50-100 cm.

2 . Mouth hole can be reinforced with cement 2-3 cm in widenessand 2 cm in thickness, around the mouth hole .

3 . Fill the hole with organic waste originating from kitchen waste , crop residues , leaves or grass clipping .

Number of holes that need to be made can be calculated using the equation :

Biopori total = rainfall intensity ( mm / hr ) x impervious area (m2 ) / speed of diffusion of water per hole ( liters / hour )

For example , for the region with rain intensity of 50 mm / hour ( heavy rain ) , with a speed of diffusion of water per hole is 3 liters / minute ( 180 liters / hour ), on 100 m2 should be made of impervious area ( 50x100 ) / 180 = 28 holes.
