Eco-Committee visit to The Change Initiative, Dubai

by Rohan Kapur | 16-04-2014 17:01 recommendations 0

As an active member of my school?s Eco-Committee I along with my Coordinator Mrs. Anjum Hasasn Ma?am & 19 other enthusiastic students of DPS, Sharjah visited ?The Change Initiative? that is a store that delivers products that are stylish and ecologically sound. The Change Initiative promises to deliver sustainability easily, and with style. WE have visited this store many times, but the beauty is that every time we see the store in new perspective & learn new things.

We met Mr. Gundeep Singh, the chief executive and founder of The Change Initiative in Dubai. This time our agenda was to attend a workshop on the broad topics:

1.       What is sustainability?

2.       Love food but hate waste!

3.       How to choose responsibly.

4.       Product Design.

As the world population is increasing at an alarming rate is it imperative that we must look at the sustainability of the environment. The environment is depleting at an alarming rate. We are using the natural resources much more than nature can sustain or recreate. Nature has a wonderful life cycle where the one living being is dependent on the other for survival. If this cycle is broken somewhere from mankind intervention, it is call for an alarm to be raised. That is what we are also doing at Tunza Eco-generation. We all love to eat but we must hate to waste. Both the emotions have to be stronger than the other. Love & hate goes side by side. Under no circumstances we may waste food. As per nature?s law nothing is a waste. Food also can be composted as a manure. The morale is that never throw leftover food in the trash cans, if at all a waste has been generated. This is our imperative responsibility.

The daily usage items beginning from a newspaper to food, clothes, transport, energy etc. must be chosen responsibly. It must not harm the environment. Every day we must compute & calculate our carbon footprint & devise the methods to reduce or minimize it to the brim.

The product design of Eco-friendly products available at The change Initiative is all sustainable & Eco-friendly.

All above was explained in depth in the workshop.

I felt so knowledgeable & responsible after the workshop. We all asked interactive questions & all our queries were suitably answered.

It was another memorable visit & I encourage all members & Ambassadors to keep on visiting The change Initiative. The learning never stops. Its? an ongoing activity.

Thanks for sharing about this visit. Yes , you are right , everytime one visits TCI one learns something new. It is undoubtedly the most sustainable building with platinum rating LEED certification.
