UAE is pioneer in innovative ideas for environmental protection, conservation and recycling. While you have learned much about recycling of paper, plastic, glass, mobile, Aluminium can etc. I intend to introduce you to the new car recycling plant. This is operated by Bee?ah, the UAE?s first fully integrated environmental solutions company operating in the Emirate of Sharjah.
As per the estimate by Bee?ah, approx.. 11,000 cars reach to the end of their lives each month. So there is a great scope of this activity in the UAE. In this recycling plant they first dismantle the car manually & separate metal, tyres, plastic, upholstery, cables and mechanical parts. All these separated parts will be recycled or reprocessed. This will help to reduce the waste going to landfills.
The metal shredder is the main part of this facility used for processing car bodies. It can shred 60 vehicles in an hour. This is the only place in the UAE that can deal with end of the life vehicles.
Tyres & plastic recycling is already operational in this facility at Sajja in Sharjah. Engines & transmission systems are separated manually. This has the potential to export so that it may be segregated & re-assembled.
The next few months are crucial as now since the facility is ready, a steady supply of end of the life vehicles.

Not many people including me think about what will happen on dumped cars. It's innovative and so helpful to mitigate negative impacts of using car.

Thanks for sharing , Raunak. It's better to send old cars to such recycling centres than leaving them in city and spoiling the beauty of city.
