Dubai Municipality has started the second phase of their "My City, My Environment" drive on 15 May 2014. Now more areas of Dubai are brought under the collection and segregation of recyclable waste reducing waste ending in landfills. This is a door-to-door waste collection and recycling service helping the residents participate in waste segregation and recycling the household waste. Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality said: "The campaign aims at introducing the best practices for cleanliness and making Dubai a greener city. It also emphasizes Dubai Municipality's continuous efforts on high quality services to keep the city clean." As Dubai is going to host Expo 2020, there is more focus to make Dubai clean and green. Hence, Dubai has launched several such initiatives to create a healthy ecosystem. This will also keep the residents happy and reduce sickness rate enabling social conditions for higher economic growth. This campaign is organized with the support of Dulsco, Averda and Trashco, the major recycling and waste management companies in UAE..
This programme relies on volunteers visiting every household in the identified areas and explaining the complete recycling process. The residents will be informed though one-to-one exchange of information, visual media, road-shows, talk-shows on radio, posters and banners etc. As part of this initiative, every house will be given two 240 litre capacity, green and black colored bins. Each bin carries clear instructions to help the residents segregate the waste. The green bins should be used for recyclables while the black colored bins are for all other types of generalwaste such as leftover food, vegetable and fruit skins, meat, dairy products, containers, paper towels etc. General Waste will be collected daily and recyclables will be collected on alternate days. Dubai Municipality will discontinue the services so far with the large trolley waste bins. This will help the residents to keep their home and the surrounding area clean and help achieve the city's green vision. |
