Jungle Heros

I still remember Emma Freedman. I truly believe that we need more teen activists to follow the steps of Emma and her ambitious goals. She had truly shown me that if your dream doesn't scare you, its not big enough. Emma's dream is to save the Orangutans.

The most common reaction individuals had towards Emma's dream was, "How can you, a 13 year old in America, save the orangutans? There just isn't a solution!" But ah, imaginary other half of the conversation, there is a solution. And its us.

Teenagers dictate the society's demand and supply. We are in control of the trends, and as such I, as a teenager, should become more aware of the impact our shopping has. Of course, not everyone can go to South Africa, move the orangutans into an airplane, and release them in optimum environment for them to reproduce. But taking action everyday is the most environmental friendly we can be.

Palm oil has dominated the food industry this year. Unfortunately, palm oil greatly contributes to the destruction of the Orangutans' space. Thus, Emma encourages students to boycott palm oil producers and to directly message food corporate companies. Small steps will hopefully lead us to great steps even through palm oil free products.
