Roots and shoots Clubs Movement- Lake Victoria Zone

Last year was a remarkable year to our program. We accomplished a lot with support from the American Electric Power Foundation (AEP) we were able to extend to new areas in the region. We started by training teachers in August 2010.

These teachers were inspired to start new clubs upon their return to their schools. Having visited clubs and witnessed fantastic projects. it is very encouraging to hear testimonials from club members stating that, roots and shoots has brought them inspiration.

Prior to the teachers training in 2010, most of these schools did not have projects or clubs. After August 2010 many clubs began projects and funded them on their own through member contributions. Others received support from local authorities and school committees.

I would like to emphasize that the most successful projects were ones which were envisioned by the members themselves and not the teachers. Active member engagement truly is a key to the success of any Jane Goodall roots and Shoots Club. It gives the members maximum project ownership and foster club maturity.

The projects undertaken by clubs continue to make a significant difference in communities by addressing issues related to the environment, animals and helping one another.
