(Monthly report) ZERO WASTE LIFE STYLE

by Meena Pandey | 12-09-2020 21:37 recommendations 0

Zero waste life style is reducing our ecological foot print in any way. In order to live zero waste life style, it is of utmost necessary to follow 5R rule i.e. refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, rot. We must buy less, buy well i.e. having quality and buy responsibly so that we can make the use of 5R. Waste is a valuable resource. The main aim of living zero waste life is to reduce waste and recover more resources. Living zero waste life style also motivates people to avoid waste and to make reuse and recycle the materials even more. It also helps in awareness of environmental waste issues and behavioral change on those issues. Both E-waste recycling and organic recycling is mandatory to keep the environment sustainable.

At the office, we can make the use of refillable pen rather than use and throw pen so that the production of the  plastic waste generated from using pen is lowered. Every piece of plastic was made ever even exists today. Then we can imagine, how we are deteriorating the earth in our way.  Similarly, not only talking of the pen, we should reduce the unnecessary use of note books and prints. As we know that the notebook or the paper is produced from plant products, we must be sensible in using the paper products. I have made my family and even neighbors to take jute or cotton bag with them while going to grocery to buy the daily usable goods. The chocolate box or any plastic made things are used as goods or grains keeping devices.  Veggie and fruit scraps including egg shells are used to make compost manure so as to make the organic production in the home garden.

The shampoo bottles we use are cut and used as a pen holder. These efforts have helped me to adopt the zero waste lie even more. I have found my way to replace the use of plastic cups, which are often used in any ceremonies or when we are having quite more guests at home. The committee and groups made at local level can collect the money and buy the utensils in bulk and make use of them whenever we feel necessary. So, these move is really useful to reduce the carbon footprint. Even in my village, people use the plates made up of leaves of Shorea robusta as it is often called sacred and due to the traditional use. This is the very nice approach made our elders and ancient civilization. We must make the habit of repairing things rather than buying new items. We must reuse and recycle the things as much as we can in order to reduce the carbon footprint.

I have tried to make dream catcher by my unused rubber band so as to make the maximum utilization of the things and also to make the days productive during these lockdown days. Even the plastic condenser has been replaced by steel made filter. Similarly, the use of plastic bowls are replaced by the steel made bowls.
Since, I realized the value of the environment for the existence of the life forms, I have always make my attempt no matter whether it is small or big, to reduce my ecological foot prints. Once upon a time, I used to carry junk foods as noodles, biscuits, cheeseballs with always chocolate in it. I changed my way of taking tiffin in the school. I even used to carry plastic tiffin box. I make a polite request for my parents to buy steel tiffin box and I got it. My pals really liked my thinking and tiffin box as well so, the number of plastic tiffin box were replaced by steel tiffin box. In addition to this, I used to take home made tiffin usually preferred by my friends. Homemade tiffin does not only make less production of the plastics as most often junk foods are wrapped with plastics but also it is healthy eating. Similarly, I used to make maximum utilization of the plastic pen generated by using the sign pen. Small pieces of pencil were adjusted in the sketch pen cover and it made easier to use the pencil when it was shortened by prolong use.

So, I have been doing on my way to reduce ecological foot print and live zero waste life. Here I have included some of the changes I have brought in the lifestyle of our home and community.

Thank you Tunza Eco-generation for encouraging me to live zero waste life and  I feel great to live in that way.
