Youth as the key of climate action

Two is a number that seems to be present in many places. Humans have two hands, the coin has two faces, the heart has two ventricles and the world has two ... almost two degrees which is the limit in the average temperature of the Earth at pre-industrial levels. A difference from the rest of the "two", for our planet it's a temperature limit from which, according to the World Bank, the adverse effects of climate change could increase significantly, putting human safety at risk.

Since 1995 the nations of the world have been talking about how to develop mechanisms to mitigate the effects of climate change. However, more than 20 years passed for they all affirm their commitments in a document entitled "Paris Agreement". This document includes, inter alia, intergenerational responsibility, a principle that makes all generations responsible for preserving a safe scenario for future generations. In this case, young people have a very important role in responding with specific actions to the effects of this anthropogenic phenomenon that we have called climate change.

Close your eyes and think, what would happen to the world (in 20 years) if we keep the current patterns of production and consumption. According to the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), the climate scenarios projected for 2037 are not very encouraging. The United Nations notes that the proportion of young people in the world will increase by more than 7 per cent by this date. It is for this reason that young people are a key factor in motivating changes in consumption patterns, promoting the transition to a green economy and balancing gas emissions through its impetuous and creative dynamism.

Making it possible for young people to get connected with climate action is a safe investment to comply with the Paris Agreement and Goal 13 of the new Sustainable Development Agenda. Deny their participation will only hamper development and limit the sustainable growth of nations. But how can young people connect themselves with climate action? Tell me what you think...
